Context:

I love roast duck / char siu / grilled pork, but usually restaurants here will smother the meat with sauce which is too sweet for me.

how about "mai waarn maak"?

will most likely confuse the poor dear making up the dish. It means, I don't want it too sweet...which could refer to the meat (confusing...as it isn't sweet!). Best to use mai sai sawd, or mai rad sawd, krup.
