Pain/soreness around pubic bone.

Featured Replies

Had a feeling of soreness in my pubic area, specifically above the penis. There's been no vigorous sexual activity to account for it, so went and saw Dr Pornchai at Bkk/Pattaya hospital in the Urology dept. today. He did an examination, including a digital prostate check and an ultrasound for my bladder. Also had urine tested for signs of an infection. I was surprised that a blood test wasn't done, but I'm not the doctor. My prostate is enlarged, but I already knew that, but normal for a man of my advanced years, the urine test was also normal. I do have a problem urinating, particularly in the night, but usually get up only twice. I asked the doctor if it could be prostatitis, but he discounted that, and recommended that I start with Harnal Ocas 0.4mg (Tamsulosin). He seemed to think the enlarged prostate was causing the tenderness, but I'm not so sure.

When you press in the area does it worsen or feel like your bladder is full?

As if the enlarged prostate is the culprit, the mechanism would be urinary retention leading to discomfort from distended bladder.

Prostatitis does not sound likely esp. as urine test was clear.

While the digital exam can be strongly indicative of benign enlargement vs cancer it is prudent to periodically monitor the PSA level. Some PSA elevation is to be expected with BPH but if it is sky high -- or if it increases at a rapid rate - that would be a warning sign.

It's only the actual surface of the skin that feels tender, when I press strongly there's no pain. It's quite a strange sensation. There is some urine retention, sometimes I might need to go a couple of times in succession before my bladder feels empty. When I get up at night I need to sit for 5 minutes to allow the prostate to relax, which makes it easier to urinate.

No idea, unless there is sign of some sort of skin irritation.

OK, thanks. Hopefully it will eventually go.

Buy some new underwear and trousers, it could be something silly like elastic too tight, area too hot, soap powder not being rinsed out of your underwear properly.

Blood pressure meds. plus one for gout.

Tenderness in that area can be caused by joint dysfunction. Also muscular strain. Or both. Lots of muscular attachments. A recent sideways slip could cause the area to be painful. Bursitis perhaps.

Sorry.  It's going to fall off!!

It could be cystitis, men get that too.  I believe.

Scrotal pain occurs in both bacterial and nonbacterial epididymitis. Pain can be severe and is sometimes referred to the abdomen. In bacterial epididymitis, patients may also have fever, nausea, or urinary symptoms. Urethral discharge may be present if the cause is urethritis.
