PHUKET:-- The National Disaster Warning Center (NDWC) has repeated warnings of possible flash floods and landslides as monsoon rains continue to inundate Phuket and surrounding provinces.

“Parts of Phuket, Phang Nga and Ranong could well be hit with flash floods this week and there is a high probability of landslides in these areas,” NDWC chief Chayasarn Tonanon told the Phuket Gazette today.

He warned that all three districts of Phuket could be affected while in Phang Nga, Kapong and Takua Thung districts were on the watch list.

Yes, what a surprise at this time of the year.

And road are flooded as usual, as there never is any improvement in respect an channeling the water and keeping drains and gutters clean :bah::bah:

In Kata many of the drains have been renewed. No flooding at all in my street this year.

What nobody seems to take into account when there's flooding in Patong, is the state of the tide.

With the amount of water now that is run-off, it cannot drain into the sea when the tide is high. It goes against the laws of physics.

Previously, all the land to the east of Rat-u-tit Song Roi Pee road was either wetland, or, rice-paddy, which absorbed the run-off water.

But the mayor removed all the rubbish from the drains and said the problem has been fixed.

I must admit I haven't heard about the local cop shop going under lately.

Underpasses in Phuket ? Are the pumps working?

Chalong circle is usually under, thought of the underpass there........still good or is it flooded?

Chalong Circle was flooded when I drove around it this morning on the Viset Road/Patak Road corner.

Partially right. The draining slows during the high tide, but never stops as the road level is always higher than the sea level.
