Thanks to Brexit Brits may in future be paying £10 to go to France and £50 to go across Europe. Great, huh?

And we will charge them to come to the UK, I take it that you are a glass half empty kind of guy?

Just great news!  With all this wall building hysteria going on right now, to know that there are still borders you can cross without silly documents (and also very expensive these days if you have to get them from an EU country Embassy in Bangkok). Keep up the good work Thai Immigration!

No doubt dual pricing applies here too.

No it doesn't. This  is applying to all that go to the casino Thai or foreigner. Don't even thank of trying this if your crossing over for a trip to Siem Reap. This scam has been going on for over a year. Before the coup 2014 it was 100 baht so you are getting a discount.:whistling: BTW at this crossing  the Cambodian Immigration change 1500 baht for a visa and 300 baht for doing a u-turn.

“Good guys in, bad guys out”, says Thailand Immigration chief :cheesy:

That's what the Thai immigration chief says.

Currently looks like "Anybody in, Anybody out".

There was a time after the military took the reins that I could nearly understand their stance with the clampdowns on border crossings from a security point of view. But it appears that a lot of work needs to be done to plug the holes so to speak.

Thailand has a soft, porous border to start with but this is like pouring water through chicken mesh, you ain't going to make much of a difference to the path of the water if that's the way it wants to go.

In the golden Colonial days, it's called 'in the service of Queen and country'...

Its just a case where when you go to the casino you lose money there first. I was amazed the immigration officer clammed up when questioned how strange. Were they really dumb enough to think this scam would work indefinitely???

Please, tell me why that should be?

Norwegians and Swiss don't pay anything, why would the Brits?

Not my business since I have no intention to visit the UK in the foreseeable future, however I think strawpanda had a point. If he goes to Germany and has to pay 50, it's his money. If a german goes to UK and pays 50, strawpanda still doesn't get his 50 back.

I know a Cambodian guy who works at this border. He told me several years ago that at the weekends 5000 Thais daily crossing the border to visit the casino. That is 500,000 Baht per weekend and that the money is split between Immigration and Army.

So based on the most recent statement on stamping out corruption, will action be taken against the officials responsible for this?

Sorry that would be 250,000 not 500,000

Really based on what precedent?

I have travelled across Europe for 40+ years and never paid anything!

Incidentaly what has that to do with corrupt immigration here?

Off topic I know, but keep up with the news. Brits might have to apply for a visa costing a tenner to visit a European Union country after Brexit. The OP presumes that will be per country, and he/she might be correct.

I too have seen this happen at Sadao.

The guy in front of me in the queue, with a Thai minder, produced no documents.  Cash was passed to the immigration officer and he was admitted with no questions asked.

Why complain uptoyoumyfriend asks.

Among other purposes immigration control is there to prevent the entry of criminals and terrorists.  Admitting unknown persons for cash completely undermines that.

The "going off topic" disease is endemic to internet "discussion".

Especially virulent strain on TV.

Which is why I will try (and fail) to restrain myself from commenting upon the fact that everything about the hoped for/feared "Brexit" is if/maybe/perhaps/somewhen/quite possibly never.

It's all up to "Them".  Not you, not me, not the "Big Opinion Poll"..........Them.

Your half full/empty glass analogy would work a little better if there were an equal number of visitors, but as it is, there are twice as many UK visits to Europe as there are EU visits to the UK.  Can we assume that you are a glass one third full kind of guy?
