I want a ceremony in Thailand, but legal marriage in the USA.

Featured Replies

I don't want to screw up a K-1 in progress.  Okay, so let's say she gets the visa.  I want to have a wedding ceremony that is NOT legal in Thailand.  But I want to do all the traditional things for a Bhuddist wedding.  The Sin Sod, the gold, the wedding ceremony.  Then I take her to the USA and we are legally married.  Is there any way having this sort of ceremony can mess up the K-1?

Any Thai ceremony is not legal whatsoever. Only after you go to a Government Office, sign all the necessary forms and papers including witnesses, are you then legally married. You can have the biggest ceremony or celebration in the world, but without that visit to the Amphur Office, you are not married in the eyes of the law, anywhere.

Awesome.  Thanks!

Good luck to you. I had to marry my GF in Thailand to get her to Canada because Fiancée visas in our country were abolished years ago. Pain in the a§§ in Thailand with all the trips to Embassy, Translators documents , Foreign Ministry, Amphur Office.

But please make sure that she's not already married. :shock1:
