My wife got her Settlement visa for the Uk today :D But we asked for it to be post dated for 3 months and they have not :D . It is dated from this month so can we still go in 3 months time or ask them to change the date how long do you get to enter the uk once you have got the visa and how will a late entry affect her long term. The other thing is on the visa it states no dependants but we have a four month old girl who will be coming to the uk with us she has a uk passport. And my wife has a 3 year old boy from an old thai boyfriend who we hope one day can join us in the uk to. We put them both on the visa application form as family so why does it say no dependants on the visa :o Thanks for any help

Mazo,

Your wife can enter the UK at any time within the visa's validity, but failure to do so within one month might cause complications when it comes to her seeking indefinite leave to remain. You might wish to contact the embassy and explain that you asked for the visa to be post-dated, requesting that they amend its start date.

The number of dependants indicates how many children are travelling on that visa. Your daughter is travelling on her British apssport so is rightfully not included as a dependant on your wife's visa and the boy, if I have garnered correctly, is not travelling on this occasion. He may apply for a visa in his own right when you decide the time is right.

When she comes to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain she needs to:

1) Have been resident in the UK for 2 years

2) Be in possession of a valid leave to remain.

She can apply for ILR up to 28 days before the 2nd anniversary of her first entry, so delaying arrival for up to 28 days after the commencement date of her visa shouldn't be a problem. But if she delays longer than this then her visa will expire before she can apply. This means that she will have to apply for Further Leave to Remain to cover the gap; at a cost, currently, of £335 by post or £500 in person.

As Scouse said, you should contact the embassy immediately and get them to change the dates.
