Sukhumvit street vendors ordered off road tonight. Will it be business as usual?

How about the street girls? Are they allowed to do their "business" as usual? Some of them (especially the foreign gals from Uzbekistan, Russia, Uganda etc. will have a big problem if there are no more street shops.... as they used them to sit there and to get in touch with customers. Standing on the sidewalk the police would catch them.

The poor things, nowhere to solicit from, what a big problem for them.  Who gives a shit about them?

Sorry, but yes you are entitled to your sofa opinion. 24-25yrs already been seeing it and occasionally love to walk in it when have the chance in BKK. Have an old friend have not seen in over 20 yrs coming next week and he has never been here. There will be no side walk fizz for him to say wOwwwww. Thailand's days are numbered for Western tourists.

Yawn

How long have we heard that tourism from the West will vanish and for how many reasons?

Rising prices, coups, floods, nightlife crackdowns and now the removal of stalls selling counterfeit Nike gear, sex toys and drug paraphernalia?

If your mate can't say "Wow" on Sukhumvit, take him to Patpong where he can use the expression to his heart's content when they present him with his checkbin upstairs at one of the rip-off bars

They were conspicuous by their absence when I was there yesterday evening around 6.

Was much easier and quicker to get from A to B without having to step into the road to take my chances with cars and motorbikes.

You know YeahSiam, I have entertained friends and groups from the US for over 20+ yrs and they all have the fascination of the Sukhumvit street booths. Just a Thailand wonder, and these people were women and men alike with well to do and middle class back grounds loving it. they are taking a very fun element from what Thailand is famous for. People don't come here to sit and post on TV such as yourself, and what I am doing at this moment because of in-between things. Get real, and I doubt you have experienced much here in your small time I would think. .

Only an idiot would pay a 500.% mark up on a synthetic "cotton" t-shirt or risk getting caught at the airport with a laser or counterfeit porn DVD, I suggest you find better quality friends, certainly none of mine are compelled to buy there.

Perhaps the Arabs with the 7 family members in tow casually strolling blocking the side walk will now stay in soi 3

Surely those here who are distraught with Bangkok trend away from 3rd world can find another country? Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam.. But I don't recall seeing dildos for sale there either

Well what are you doing if not posting on TV? I've been a member since 2012 and often go months without posting so I really don't see the point you're trying to make.

I've been here a little under 8 years and am in the area this topic deals with every day but I don't suppose that compares favourably with your 25 years in Nakhon Nowhere, does it?

mcfish. Obviously we can easily see what you look at on the street. What on earth and why do you mostly only mention those articles? of your fascination? You could not get me to write such trashy words. So on that, as you suggest finding better quality friends, well that rules you out! As for VN or Cambodia, I actually travel there a lot, very nice places and people.  You miss the point as it is the fun of it and surroundings and really a part of Bangkok, but please don't worry and stay concerned with your own welfare.

Several decent night markets have opened up around the place and are becoming quite popular with tourists as well as Thais. Some tourists might not be able to just step out of the hotel to pick up over-priced tat any more but times change and I think this is overdue.

Sorry. It is not Nakhon anything or Nakhon nowhere which is a blatant insult to those folk living there. I stated I was in-between something today so twas responding to your comment on your anti stance on the Sukhumvit dilemma.  But as you wish, I will plainly sign out until needing the TV services rather than posting with cantankerous arm chair people here. 8yrs is not a long time, but I would hope with in that amount of time you have taken the initiative and can converse fit in and do more with Thai society opposed to being self sheltered. You are entitled to your opinion as well as I am, so no wrong in that.

It's kinda hypocritical to be offended by the word dildo and lady boy dick but yet your happy for them to be on display? As long as your 5 year old doesn't point and say what's that daddy I guess you're OK with it.

Bangkok will attract a better Class of tourists now the slime on the street is gone. Your classy friends can hit the road out !

Nice vocabulary. No, I would not ever write garbage undesirable words as you just did. so if you are suggesting better quality friends, then that certainly cannot start with yourself. The street has more flare to what you perceive and see it as. You missed the point altogether. But that is ok.

No, I did not say offended, just not with it writing trashy words. You know, my kids are teenage Thai-American, and yet I do not take them to such places although the Thai Newspapers and  Internet let's stuff like this to be well known. Yes the "palad khik" penis is an old thing in Thailand as is like an amulet openly shown and nobody is offended, while sex is also not taboo in Thailand and joked about. My kids have seen that paald khik since they could walk for whom had it on or was selling it at a booth, and this could be in Bangkok to any province, not a big thing. But it is not a dildo and I excuse myself for saying that.  Hit the road out, sorry, only from posting with people like you. But again you are more than ok to say your sentiment and thoughts. It is your right. cool down and enjoy your life, as I need to get on to important matters now rather for tit for tat with you and another here. Have a good one. .

Not denial and mostly everyone turns a blinds eye and ignores it, I guess except for the few select. For me if happened to be walking with my kids in some other are and it was there, I would plainly make a joke, we would laugh, and that is that. Pretty much the Thai way. Enough discussed on this, and things do change as well as people do. thnx.

Pornography and showing kiddies? Get real. Now you really need to stay in your home country because you are certainly clueless to Thais and Thailand. If there is a dead body in the street, you don't stop and gawk. You look another way and try to ignore the fact by lightening the situation. don't let small things bug you, or you will be continually bugged. Now if they close the Sukhumvit to this, I am saddened but then life goes on. No I don't dwell like you apparently do, but was just stating that another piece of Thailand is going bye bye. Probably something that attracted you to begin with.. enough on this as is nonsense now, and well probably before as well.

I could use harsher words that describes what's on those DVD covers, it's as hardcore as your ever going to see.
Me and you are on different moral compasses, kiddies and porn, that's just disgusting and creepy dude but it's your choice I guess.

The vendors are still there, on the steps instead of intruding on the sidewalk.  Very pedestrian-friendly now, hope it stays that way.

A tiny percentage are doing that, not all of them.  All the vendors' huge, wheeled storage containers have gone from Soi 13 opening it to traffic, as has the food place that half blocked the soi entrance and provided the disgusting piss-bucket near to 7-11 for it's customers and drug dealers.  I hope it stays that way.

What would be nice to see now is BMA taking action against the restaurants, massage shops etc that have permanently taken all the pavement right up to the gutters of the start of Soi 13 with the construction of their premises.

The Nigerian dealers that hang there are going to be exposed without the caotic cover of stalls and pedestrians however they are hard to nab since they don't carry anything but recently for the first time ever I have seen these guys shaken down by the bib, checking passports and pocket searches.
Im really starting to like the Junta and what they have done in a few short years compared to previous government that did zip

You know, read my middle finger and hear it and let it ring in your head loud and clear. Your the one who can describe them and goes on and on and on about them as you have these ongoing pictures of lust you in your head that you try to throw off saying is disgusting. Grow up if senility lets you. . I said no such thing. you are no better than a missionary, but then again god loves everybody.  For the record, you comments in general for everything are quack. I have seriously had enough of you, but ignorance such as your self is unchangeable.

Another step in the Singaporisation of Bangkok. Eventually Sukhumvit will be solid condos from soi 1 to 105 and beyond, the character and street life I have known for thirty years will be swept away and I shall be no more.

Agreed. Ironically enough this is a follow on of Thaksin's vision for Bangkok, turning it into a sterile, shopping centre, 5* hotel, empty condo, strewn mass of concrete along with not having so many foreigners around.

Looks like the current regime is doing a great job of bringing Thaksin's visions to reality.

While I wriggle with pleasure that those unfortunates who have to live/work in that grimy area might now be able to walk the pavements, when all that remains is the square root of sod all, apart from huge slabs of faceless concrete aimed at draining their salaries, I wonder if they will still be posting with such glee....

I think you're misinformed about what they're selling. The toys on display are definitely not traditional wood carved fertility symbols, but lurid flesh coloured plastic, battery operated and in all shapes and sizes. There's so many of them outside Subway it's enough to put you off your footlong.

That would be amazing, who would't dream to live a in clean city like Singapore with and fun and the cost of Bangkok ?

I'm sorry but Bangkok needs to be clean up.
