UK: A partner for Thailand, SE Asia

Alok Sharma

BANGKOK: -- As the first UK Foreign Office Minister to visit Southeast Asia since the EU referendum, I want to make clear that the UK is open for business and we believe this dynamic region is incredibly important for Britain.

We've been trading with Asia and especially Thailand for four centuries. Our relationship spans all aspects of foreign policy, diplomacy and security, as well as trade and investment. At this time, the UK is more active and outward facing on the world stage than ever before. This, of course, includes Thailand and our other strategic partners and high growth economies in Southeast Asia.

I share the view of many informed voices that the 21st century is going to be Asia's century. The UK knows that Southeast Asia is a significant part of this vibrant region.

Yes, he should have spoken to them the way you speak to your prostitutes:

"Hoes, you want money, you gotta earn it beeches"

Brexit damage limitation, but also may usher in a resurgence of the UK as a great trading nation. Prepare for a return to Empire!

Return to the Empire ........and even re-colonisation of the Empire's old haunts perhaps?

UK is open for business

UK is now free of EU trade policies?

Or is the UK merely putting a sign in the window that it's open for business but the front door is still closed?

It is a meeting of the minds from two countries that both have falling currencies due to their democratic pursuits.  Thailand's pursuits are far less clear, but we are told they are there.

Nope. UK is still a contributing member of the EU. Some forget that, including Herr Juncke. It is still part of all the EU trade deals and fully entitled to use them.

However, nice to see they're not letting the grass grow under their feet for once in preparing for when that's not the case.

What price freedom? Often initial treatment for a serious problem causes pain and remission before recovery.

Wait and see the Italian referendum result. Then we'll see how democratic the EU is, and how stable and solid the Euro is.

Yes, it will be a year or two before the UK is at last free from the leech that is the EU. I think a "trading empire" would be more accurate.

Ah, after Brexit Uk could learn a lot from Thailand.

1. All foreigners need work permits -at a cost - and make most occupations restricted to UK nationals.

2. No foreign ownership of land - give them 12 months to sell or confiscated by the state. All foreign companies should have 51% British ownership.

3. Slap exorbitant tariffs on all imported luxury goods (cars, phones, you name it).

4. Legalise prostitution - those Tourists will need cheap fun (available because cheap pound) and plenty of girls will do it to get their next Iphone, at the 'New' prices.

5. Limit migration to 1000 people per country per year ...... Plus will need to pay 50,000 pounds for a 10 year visa.

Sure their are many other inventive ideas that could be introduced ......

Britain is so desperate as it freefalls into the Dark Ages that it whores itself to totalitarian states, turns a blind eye to civil rights and unsavoury 'governments' (NOT this one, of course...) and generally demeans itself on a world stage.

At least the UK has the good sense to plan at least two years ahead for when we leave the EU.  There are some countries that seem to find it impossible to plan two days ahead and accept that alternate drought and floods, not to mention military coups, for example, are a way of life and therefore inevitable.  Not naming names of course!

Yes indeed; I'm sure the Infidels would make better use of the profits than the present producers!
