Bangkok's World Film Festival Rescheduled To January

BANGKOK —The 14th World Film Festival of Bangkok set for November has been postponed to next year to mourn the passing of King Bhumibol.

 

Kriengsak “Victor” Silakong, festival director of Thailand’s longest-running film festival, announced the postponement online, saying it would be moved to January.

 

“The Kingdom of Thailand has lost its beloved monarch, King Bhumibol Adulyadej and is now in mourning,” he wrote.

More free bus services arranged for the public to pay respects to the late King

 

 

BANGKOK: -- The Ministry of Tourism and Sports, in collaboration with the private and public sectors, has announced four shuttle bus service routes to service the general public's travels, in order to pay their respects to His Majesty the King during 17-24 October. 

 

Minister of Tourism and Sports Mrs. Korbkarn Wattanawarankul has announced free bus services to aid the public’s travels during 17-24 October, according to National News Bureau of Thailand.

 

The Thai Transportation Operators Association, The Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Royal Thai Police will be overseeing the free bus services.

 

All four routes, starting from the National Stadium, Victory Monument (Rajavithi Hospital), Wongwian Yai BTS Station, and the Bangkok Bus Terminal in Talingchan, will allow passengers to disembark at Sanam Luang.

 

Bus services during 17-24 October will be operating during 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with new buses servicing the public every hour.

 

Authorities have prepared the area in front of the National Stadium to broadcast His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s funeral procession for the general public residing in the central parts of Bangkok or those who cannot travel to pay their respects at the Grand Palace.

 

For convenience, the general can use the BTS train services and disembark at the National Stadium BTS station.

 

At present the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) is also providing free bus service on 32 bus routes that pass  Sanam Luang, in addition to seven free shuttle bus service.

 

The 32 routes are Routes 1, 2, 3, 12, 15, 25, 32, 42, 47, 53, 59, 60, 68, 70, 79, 80, 82, 91, 203, 503, 508, 509, 511, 516 and 556.

Annual khon event canceled in respect for late King

BANGKOK — A much-anticipated annual khon performance celebrating His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol’s birthday next month has been canceled in light of his death.

 

Along with many entertainment activities and cultural performances canceled during the period of mourning, “The Allegiance of Phiphek,” a royally sponsored play scheduled for 41 performances Nov. 5 through Dec. 5, won’t be staged this year.

With the crowds of mourners queuing all day to pay respects to King Bhumibol Adulyadej, getting to Sanam Luang is pretty difficult. Here are some information on how you can get to the Grand Palace. Remember though, you're only allowed to pay respects between 8:30 am to 4 pm, and the queue is usually very long.

Grand Palace and Temple of Emerald Buddha remain closed to tourists until October 31 

 

 

BANGKOK: -- The Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha will be closed to tourists and visitors until end of this month. It will be open to visits as usual from November 1 onwards.

 

According to the announcement of the Bureau of the Royal Household, selling entry tickets to visit the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha will be closed until October 31 to facilitate the people to the places to pay respect to the body of His Majesty the King.

 

The Bureau said members of the public will be allowed to pay respect to the King’s body at Dusit Throne Hall after the 15-day Royal funeral ceremonies ends.

Tourists’ access to Emerald Buddha Temple, Grand Palace resumed Nov 1

BANGKOK: -- Tourists will be allowed to visit the Temple of Emerald Buddha and parts of the Grand Palace starting next Tuesday, PM’s Office Minister Suwaphan Tanyuvardhana said Wednesday.

 

He said tourists will be allowed to have sight-seeing tour of the temple and the section of Grand Palace from 8 am to 4 pm via the Wiset Chaisri Gate like in the normal situation.

Mourners, who want to pay personal respects to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, will enter the Grand Palace through the Manee Nopparat Gate and leave via Wiman Thewes and Thewa Bhirom gates.

Tourism minister observes preparations for free bus rides between Victory Monument and Sanam Luang

  

BANGKOK, 27 October 2016 (NNT) – Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul observed preparations for free bus rides between Victory Monument and Sanam Luang for the people traveling to mourn the late King Rama IX at the Grand Palace. 

The tourism minister visited a bus station in front of Rajavithi hospital near Victory Monument which is the starting point of the shuttle bus rides for the general public who wish to visit the Grand Place to pay homage to the late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. 

She said the free bus service is being provided by the Tourism Authority of Thailand with additional bus rides from the National Stadium, Southern Bus Terminal and Krung Thonburi BTS station to Sanam Luang. A fleet of 500 buses are now running in four routes to serve passengers from 07:30 a.m. to 05.00 p.m. daily free of charge. 

About 160,000 passengers have already used the free shuttle buses since 17 October. An average of 50,000 passengers have used the free buses daily since 22 October. 

The Bureau of the Royal Household will allow the general public to pay homage before the royal urn of the late monarch in Dusit Maha Prasat throne hall inside the Grand Place from 29 October. 

The tourism ministry is distributing black ribbons and brooches to the general public at major shopping malls and immigration checkpoints, expecting foreign visitors to participate in the mourning. Name tags will be provided for children with contact information in case they get lost in the area.

Grand Palace will be closed to public and tourists on Dec 1-2

 

 

BANGKOK: -- The Bureau of the Royal Household on Tuesday announced that paying tribute to the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej by members of the public at the Grand Palace would be suspended for two days on December 1-2 in order to facilitate the holding of a Royal merit-making ceremony to mark the 50th day of the passing of the late King.

 

Also, the selling of tickets to allow tourists to visit the Grand Palace on the two days will be suspended.

 

On December 5 which coincides with the birthday anniversary of the late King, the Bureau of the Royal Household, a Royal merit-making ceremony will be held at the Grand Palace on December 5-6. Hence, the Grand Palace will be closed to tourists during the two-day period.

 

However, members of the public are allowed to pay tribute to the late King as normal at Dusit Maha Prasart throne hall of the Grand Palace.
