What is the tipping practice in Thailand ?
If there is an actual "general implicit practice to leave around 10% of the check in a restaurant in Thailand for the tip" it's because people like the OP have been giving tips, apparently regardless of the actual service ( somewhat like when IMO idiots give sin sod for their non virgin previously married beloved to be their wife ). It doesn't take much for all the restaurant etc workers to start looking at a tip as an essential part of remuneration, rather than as a sign of gratitude by the customer for a job well done. I never used to leave a tip unless the service was exceptional, or I was a regular and got on well with the staff. Next thing we know, taxi drivers will be demanding tips, hotel employees will be demanding tips etc etc. IMO, just don't, unless the service deserved something extra. It may not yet be too late to rescue Thailand from this odious practice. -

The Tim Walz thread.
There are lots of great ideas which get totally corrupted before they get implemented. We live on a planet which could, quite literally, be close to a utopia for all. One problem though. Unbridled Human Greed. Eventually those great ideas get kicked to the gutter by those who wish to amass power and wealth and then impose extreme austerity on the rest of humanity - or just cull them - because why share if you can have it all to yourself? -

Paris Olympics: Officials play down Covid fears after water polo players test positive
How quickly some forget... "Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the [2020 Summer Olympics in Japan] event was postponed to 2021 on 24 March 2020 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic... ... Public support for the Games in Japan decreased significantly amid a 2021 surge in COVID-19 cases in the country.[58] Multiple organizations of medical professionals voiced oppositions to the Games,[52][59][60] while an opinion poll in April 2021 saw 40% of participants support the cancellation of the Games, and 33% support a second postponement.[61] In May 2021, 83% of those polled supported the cancellation or postponement of the Games.[62] The Tokyo Medical Practitioners Association called for the cancellation, stating that hospitals in Tokyo "have their hands full and have almost no spare capacity" in an open letter to the prime minister.[63]" At the time, instead of canceling the games, the IOC and authorities in Japan ultimately agreed that all events in Tokyo were to be held behind closed doors with no spectators due to a new locally declared state of emergency at the time due to COVID. And international spectators were banned as well. The postponed Games ran from July 23 to August 8, 2021. And even so..... "Once the Tokyo Olympics were underway, followed by the Tokyo Paralympics, there was a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases in Japan, especially those caused by the Delta variant. On 26 July, there were 60,157 cases detected in Japan, breaking the record of 44,961 cases recorded on 10 May. On 9 August, one day after the Olympics had ended, daily cases in Japan reached 100,000 for the first time, and new cases continued to increase until the peak on 23 August, when 156,931 cases were recorded.[86]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Summer_Olympics Current COVID hospitalizations in Japan just before the start of the delayed Olympics: Current COVID hospitalizations in Japan several weeks after the conclusion of the delayed Olympics: Source: The number of hospitalized COVID patients in Japan almost tripled over that period, and that was with all the many restrictions that were imposed at the time, including totally banning overseas spectators and holding no spectator events at Tokyo venues in an effort to lessen the spread of the pandemic at the time. At the start of the delayed Olympics, Japan had already recorded more than 15,000 COVID deaths since the start of of COVID in early 2020. And the COVID death toll only went up from there onward. Mystery Deepens: Missing British Man Boarded Flight from Thailand
One would think that confirming he got on and off the flight ould be a remarkably straightforward process. Thia police would have an image of him captured as he passed through immigration. The Finns, likewise will have records if he entered. So where TF is he? -

Top 10 troubles you will find during retirement in Thailand
I think a bit of a diservice was made in the visa section - I found that the wealthy pensioner LTR from the BOI to be the least amount of paperwork needed for the visa and for the yearly notification of residence (varies of course here need to read the actual benefit) and then the fifth-year renewal, again with limited amount of paperwork needed. If one meets the requirements of this 1 of 4 visas offered, then this can be the easiest visa to obtain and maintain. It is for me anyway, I had a retirement O for 20 years but now have the LTR. Good luck. -

Poll: Who will Kamala Harris pick to be her VP?
About this... Walz needs to be seen in the context of the rapid fall of Minnesota, and particularly what happened to the Twin Cities. The Twin Cities of Minneapolis & St. Paul used to be one of the nicest, safest cities in the United States. The Mary Tyler Moore show was set there for good reason, it was friendly, safe place. Minnesota used to be purple and quite centrist. The local Democratic party is called the DFL - the Democratic-Farmer-Labor party. That was how Minnesota politics worked - the cities in the metro area allied with the unions (primarily in the mining Northeast) who allied with the farmers. They went against the Twin Cities suburbs and businessmen, it was always polite, and the state was even. The big shift happened with the mass influx of Somalis, along with the Dems trying to bring in blacks from other metro areas. The "nice" Repubs being controlled opposition, they of course did nothing to stop this process. The demographics changed sharply, crime rates soared, and the political situation rearranged itself. Along with much of the rest of the country, enough of the suburbs switched to the Dems, that along with the newly black metro areas, the Dems began to get a decisive margin. + few little things - Walz quit the National Guard when he was about to be deployed to Iraq - Walz Openly Embraced And Attended Islamic Center Affiliated With ISIS whose Imam Teaches Sharia Law and has called for the murder of Jews (Dar Al-Farooq Islamic center in Minnesota known for being a key location for recruitment of ISIS terrorists, according to the FBI. ) There's a lot more on this. - Walz Signed a Bill Redefining the Term "Sexual Orientation" to include pedophiles (see attachments) - Walz has deep Chinese ties. He’s been to China over 30 times and doesn’t think they’re our biggest rival. In fact, he says he’ll never be treated as well as he was in China. He even set up a program to take high school students to China every summer for nearly a decade. According to reports, the Chinese government paid for some of them. While they were abroad, Walz reportedly told students to downplay their “American-ness.” - The VERY FIRST executive order Gov. Tim Walz signed upon taking office was establishing a “council on DEI” - Minnesota National Guard Leaders Expose Tim Walz for Stolen Valor, Lying About His Rank, and Quitting When His Unit Was Deployed to Iraq. "As soon as the shots were fired in Iraq, he turned and ran the other way and hung his hat up and quit," said Tom Behrends, a retired command sergeant major who replaced Gov. Tim Walz on a deployment to Iraq. Could do many more but I'll keep this one short.. Radical marxist like Kamala. -
