Ah, so close!

I was hoping for "I am allergic to all kinds of nuts including peanuts and coconut"

I'm going to Thailand for the first time next week, I thought it would be wise to take a print out of this to show every time I buy food as I understand that a lot of Thai food contains nuts.

Do you think this is likely to be a big problem? (ie. Am I going to have to eat in McDonalds every day to avoid nuts?)

Thanks for your replies, please can one of you give me the correct sentence I was looking for?

Cheers.

EDIT: Ok, I think I've got it:

"I'm very allergic to all kinds of nuts including peanut and coconut"

ผมแพ้ถั่วทุกชนิด รวมไปถึงถั่วลิสงและมะพร้าวด้วยครับ

/phom pae tua tuk cha nit ruam bpai tung tua li song lae ma phrao duay krab/

and

"Does this contain any kind of nuts, peanut or coconut?"

มีส่วนผสมของถัว ถั่งลิสง หรือมะพร้าวหรือเปล่าครับ

/mee suan pasom khorng tua tua li song rue ma phrao rue bplao krab/

(Not even going to attempt to say it out loud, I think it'll be easier to stick with a printed version!)

Do you think this is likely to be a big problem? (ie. Am I going to have to eat in McDonalds every day to avoid nuts?)

nope... you use the printed paper for showing them , that's a smart idea.

many thai dishes don't have those allergy things as ingredients

example

-Fried Rice

-Grilled/fried anykind of meat (except Satae hehe)

-Tom yum goong

-Omlette

-Fried veggies with meat

etc etc..

Have a nice trip in TH

PS.

"I'm very allergic to all kinds of nuts including peanut and coconut"

(could you recommend some dishes that don't have nuts ,peanut ,coconut and coconut milk as ingredients ,please?) .. you will have some choices for choosing in a menu then

(**I add coconut milk กะทิ (Ga Thi) coz some (ignorant)people think its not "coconut")

as u get allergic to pork but someone serve u a sausage coz they dont think its 'pork' :o

Bean and nut are the same word in Thai.

BambinA, what a star!

Thank you very much for your help.

StevenD,

There is one thing you should beware. Almost every kind of foods use soy bean sauce as seasoning. I'm not sure whether it would affect on you or not. It's in omlette, grilled or fried meat, fried rice, soup for noodle, fried veggies, etc.

better now?

(I have a sign of allergy .. please recommend some dishes those dont have any kind of nuts coconut and coconut milk as ingredient (please don't add soya sauce or tofu either )

Thanks guys, but I'm ok with soya and tofu.

I've printed out those phrases you gave me earlier, I'll be taking them with me when I leave on Friday - can't wait!! :-)

one thing to note though..bambina earlier suggested that tomyumkung would be ok...in most cases they add coconut milk to the soup...u can get the version without coconut milk, but u must make this very clear.

and the last one that bambi posted...the soya sauce and the other one..that last one is not tofu..but another one of those chinese sauce with beans in it

not sure what its called in english..but you could be allergic to that too?

good luck anyway, and hope you enjoy thailand :o

Thanks guys, but I'm ok with soya and tofu.

Ohh ..thats great .. you have more chances to try other dishes then..

Have fun :o

but another one of those chinese sauce with beans in it not sure what its called in english..

เต้าเจี้ยว /tao jeaw (soybean paste )?

StevenD may be fine with it coz he said he was ok with soy :D

yes thats the one bambina :o you are so good and quick with these helpful tips. my problem is I have to much trouble typing in thai :D

still dont know what taojeaw in english though....if you said to an average foreigner would they know what to expect? might have to ask some singaporean GF :D

Not having checked, I would probably try with 'fermented soy bean sauce' but will bow to the greater wisdom of our Singaporean or Hongkongish brethren.
