NAKHON SAWAN: -- Police in Nakon Sawan have found a wealthy Thai woman strangled and stuffed in a bin bag by the side of the road.

The decomposing body was found bound with electrical cord around the neck and both hands in undergrowth beside the Koh Yuan Road. She had been dead at least four days, reports Daily News.

Suthep Thepnathong,66, identified the body as that of his missing wife Saphaporn Pattayawan, 67, who had not been seen since October 17th.

On that day she was seen leaving her house on her motorcycle going to collect debts as normal. Suphaporn was well known in the Pak Nam Pho area as an owner of many flats and someone who ran a loan business.

The body was missing diamond earrings and a gold ring. Police believe she was murdered over debt repayments or for theft.

Ah huh...

Should be plenty of suspects.

Loan sharks tend not to be loved.

Often for good reasons...

Well known in the area and a loan shark but presumably didn't attract the attention of the local BIB, wonder why ?     :whistling:

Not much of a surprise here.  Ran a loan business eh?  I assume a loan shark or private loan company, but you never know, it might have been legal and registered and all that, but I doubt it.  Still, if she kept good records as many do, the list of largest delinquents might be a place to start the investigation.

Sure.. but they loaned from her... (not approving of crazy interest rates) But people who loan should repay. I run a business and hate it when people dont pay for services.

Yes they borrowed from her, but probably in desperation, and there IS a thing called USURY ! I feel no pity for the woman.

If this woman was indeed one of those that loaned money out at unreasonable rates then my pity for her is a lot less.. still nobody deserves to die for it. There are laws against this but people still go to loansharks.

Odd..collecting herself.

Outsider's job.

My Sister-in-Law loans money but insists that debtors come to her with payments weekly.  If they don't show or call to give a good reason why, her Husband strong arms them pretty quickly.  In 27 years she has never had to worry as if people pay small amounts weekly they can normally cope fairly easily.

Quite correct, I know a female loan merchant who bad mouthed a policeman who had not repaid debt to her, she retired from the trade when some mysterious character on a motor bike fired shots into her house at night.

The policeman never repaid his debt.

Nowhere has it been reported that she was a loan shark.   There is a huge difference between someone who lends money at extortionate rates and then uses intimidation and threats against borrowers and someone who lends money reasonably, possibly legally or possibly just as a side line to help out those that know her.

This is Thailand.  If you loan out money and expect repayment then you had better be prepared to use intimidation to get repaid.  Those who loan out "to help out others" understand that there will be a high rate of non-repayment and that "loan" is but a euphemism for charity used to save face.  Of the several villagers I have loaned money to over the decades, few have repaid even one satang.  My better off Thai neighbors who have also loaned to "help" others also understand that they are unlikely to be repaid.

And what was she doing riding a motorcycle?  As one collecting loans she needed to be presenting face (sadeng naa) to show power and part of that presentment of face is to be driving a nice car.

I know a few people in Thailand who give loans to other Thai people when the banks

will not deal with them.  In North America, there are companies like payday checking, and

other high interest ripoff legal jerks that do the same thing.  I have seen some people who

have nothing but praise for these people, as a lot of them are making money with higher risk

than the banks, but are reasonable with their  interest  rates. It is a shame  that

this woman lost her life. RIP to her.  Some of you armchair quarter backs, are lousy in your

knowledge of Thailand. You really are.

Geezer
