British International School, Phuket is to remain independent, CEO Apiwat Ourairat announced in a letter issued this week.

PHUKET: -- The potential lease of the British International School Phuket to institutional group Nord Anglia Education will not go ahead, reports Bill Barnett, Managing Director of hospitality consultancy C9 Hotelworks.

The school’s CEO, Apiwat Ourairat, announced in a letter issued this week, “It was felt, at this point, that to continue as an independent institution would be in the best interests of the school,” Mr Barnett reported late yesterday (Oct 26).

In full, the letter said:

Dear Members of the BISP Community,

I wish to inform you all that following a long period of negotiation with Nord Anglia Education, the Board of Governors has decided not to pursue the lease agreement.

It was felt, at this point, that to continue as an independent institution would be in the best interests of the school. Consequently, the Headmaster has been asked to develop a new strategic plan for the development of the school programmes and facilities, which will ensure BISP’s position as a leading educational institution for well into the future. The Board is committed to work together closely with the Executive Committee to ensure that the school is equipped with everything it needs to achieve this.

I would like to thank the entire community for its patience while the Nord Anglia offer was being examined in detail, and I regret any anxiety or uncertainty that this may have caused over the past few months. In particular, I would like to thank all members of staff of the school for their continued professionalism during this extended period.

Probably - and maybe not all the other wants. But better off staying independent.
