Do Thai people need a passport to fly?

Situation:  Thai lady does not have a passport.  Does she need a passport if she just wants to fly on AirAsia from Bangkok to Chiang Mai?  She is not leaving the country.  She has never been on a plane before.  Will a national ID card suffice?

She can fly without one. My friend, who only got her passport this year, flew regularly from BKK to Hat Yai to see family prior to that.

Yes, ID card will suffice.

I'd guess that most Thais haven't got a passport, yes an ID-cardwill be fine, for a domestic-flight.

Thai driving license works, too.  Even for farangs.

Any official Thai photo ID will do for Thai and foreigners.
