US sends message to adversaries with nuclear sub visit, drills

By Barbara Starr and Brad Lendon, CNN

(CNN)The US military is sending a double-barreled message this week to potential adversaries in the Pacific.

A US Navy submarine carrying nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles is visiting Guam for the first time since the late 1980s and US and Japanese troops will practice amphibious landings on Pacific islands.

The submarine USS Pennsylvania (SSBN 735) is making what the Navy formally calls a "scheduled port visit" to the US territory in the Pacific, according to a Navy press statement.

funny, when the Russians do anything, its the start of world war 3, when the Yanks do it, its just a "social visit", western paranoia

Paranoia is " suspicion and mistrust of people or their actions without evidence or justification. " Seems plenty of justification, such as annexation of Crimea, sponsored land grab Eastern Ukraine, crimes against humanity in Syria, etc. Wake up and smell the coffee

Guam is American territory. I'm not sure why this is a story. It's not like the sub has surfaced in Swedish waters or in port at one of the man made islands the Chinese have created. You have to figure these subs are normally present but not actually seen.

The Ohio class subs (the Pennsylvania is one of those Trident class subs) do not make ports of call.  They go out for approx 90 to 120 days and back to their home bases in either Georgia and Washington.  The LA class do make ports of call but not very often and only in selected places such as Guam, Hawaii, etc.  The Ohio class will also go to these same ports but only very rarely.

Yeah, bombing countries like Georgia,  taking sovereign territory from them, then doing the same thing in Ukraine, and killing civilians in both. Kinda different.  Hardly paranoia.

As said before,  it'd be different if this sub surfaced off the waters near St. Petersburg.  Like the Russian sub did off the coast of the UK. LOL
