xtan12
Hi All, I (Singaporean) will be moving to BKK for work (2 years) in this month. My office will be @ Riverside Plaza Building. I need some advice and recommendations on a decent apartment near my office and budget around 3k-4k baht monthly rental fully furnished. I can't seem to find any information via the net other than condos above 10k baht which is way too steep for a start. Appreciate for help from all experienced expats/friends out there. Thank you. Boycie
Decent apartment near Riverside Plaza building for 3k-4k baht monthly rental, fully furnished? I am thinking that this is not possible. Please report back if you find somewhere at this budget, i'll be your neighbour.
JHolmesJr
3-4k gets you a bargirl style room in onnut 71...in fact some of ur neighbors will be paying more
blackcab
You won't find many roos advertised in English in your price bracket, because it is mostly low income Thai people that rent these types of quite basic rooms. Apartment buildings are easy to spot. Get a Thai speaking friend to ask in a few near where you will be working.
grumbleweed
Decent or cheap, your gonna struggle to find both. Unless your interpretation of decent is having a door, walls and ceiling
yellowboat
For a cheap place, you will need to move a ways outside of the city center and commute. Commuting in Bangkok is not overly expensive, but it could tack on another $600++ . It is odd your Singaporean bosses are screwing you on living space. Singapore is horrifically expensive when it comes to rent. Near Khao San there are okay places for B6,000 a month. Good food and fun. It is just up river from there. Jackie66
With such low income you have to ask yourself is it even worth moving to another country to work.
jspill
So if it's this riverside plaza building you mean Then I see it's on Charoen Nakhon Rd. If I go to http://www.tee-pak.com/ and choose search by map, then zoom to that area - http://www.tee-pak.com/flash7/main.swf?sprache=en Then click the green markers Apparently 'Chareonnakorn view' is nearby for 3800 baht up - http://www.tee-pak.com/en/63720238113917.html And Kaya Place, 4000 baht - http://www.tee-pak.com/en/2933266969787.html And Taksin House, 1500 baht- http://www.tee-pak.com/en/11817694612230.html And Pontip apartment, 3500 baht - http://www.tee-pak.com/en/48878165510795.html

sikishrory
If you do some skillful googling you might be able to find this site I found awhile ago. It had loads of apartments that were 3-10k a month. Most of these places are not really that easy to find online. Remember that with the cheaper apartments you actually pay more for power and water at a rate set by the owner of building. For just a few thousand more (eg. Sense of london 7500pm) you can get a much nicer enviroment/amenities/security and get your bill directly from the power company which is like 4 baht per unit as opposed to 16 or so. I used to have Thai workmates that would talk about there 2000 baht rooms in khlongtoey but your pretty much sleeping on a mattress on a floor with toilet and bucket in a very poor area. I also worked with some filipinos that used to surive by living like an hour out of bangkok and getting minivans to the bts every morning. I would be looking at the cheaper condos around morchit and bearing. Further out but much cheaper. They are the kind of sacrifices you need to make in bangkok if your budget is just 3 or 4 thousand. seancbk
XTan12, You are going to struggle to find anything decent for that price. I'm wondering if you've miscalculated the exchange rate or something. Then again you didn't say what your job is so I'm going to guess you are a junior in whatever business it is and are therefore not on a high salary even in Singapore. Are you working for a Thai company or Singaporean? I moved here from Hong Kong and was actually working for a Singapore based company when I first arrived here. Before leaving my job in HK, I negotiated an even higher salary to come here and work. Living in Bangkok if your rental budget is so low will not be a fun time. IE stay away from air conditioned restaurants and mall food.... no cable tv.... and no star bucks! 3--5k is ridiculous... but if you insist on paying that little try renting room out of a house. or moving farther out Edited November 4, 2016 by speckio

My friend couldn't get along with his wife in bkk and he only survived there for a month and when he wanna leave bkk, his passport was stolen from his company's apartment. I went down to bkk, bring my friend to embassy and get him on a flight back home.
