A Sanam Luang pickpocket preying on mourners was exposed in a policesting on Friday evening.

And metropolitan police chief Sanit Mahathavorn was on hand to show how it was done and expose the thief.

A woman called Kaew Kajai, 56, had complained to police that she had had her phone lifted from her bag while she was queuing for food at a tent.

She called the number of her stolen phone and arranged with the thiefto pay him 600 baht for the return of her property. They arranged to meet at a bus stop 200 metres from the scene of the crime.

Police rounded up Withaya Butsriphoom, 53. He claimed that it was the first time he had done this after he had lost his job as a seller of auto parts.

He was charged with theft.

Sanit said that visitors to the area should watch out for pickpockets and people with bags are advised to wear them at the front and not at the side.

He claimed that it was the first time he had done this after he had lost his job as a seller of auto parts.

Yeah right, first time! Picking pockets takes skill and endless practice.

What a cheeky bugger, he's doing it again right in front of the police!!!!!!!
