Rachada:

BIG C, Esplenada with cinema, Tesco Lotus, Fortune town, Central with cinema, kids playground and ice skating, Night market with food stalls, bars and live music, gyms

Great if you live there and don't venture out but, again, try getting a taxi to take you there from Sukhumvit or Silom.

No problem if you pay a bit more than the meter

Only if he doesn't drive off as soon as you say "Ratchada".

Lol just a bit? Try triple! And many won't do it even for that, plus these costs start to add up, not to mention the headache and traffic.
No thank you

Huh? I live 3 mins walk from Nana bts and bought there specifically to avoid traffic and live in the city. Traffic is totally irrelevant to me

I don't think you understand this thread or haven't read the op's post

How about Uber - do you use it? I know it's around in BKK now and from a couple people I've talked to, they use it instead of taxis all the time. At least in the States they are much more likely to pick you up and take you where you're going, regardless of where it is, than taxis.

How about rainy season? Taxi drivers become extortionists for even short distances and that's if you can even find an empty one to get extorted lol

Personally, I use GrabTaxi and GrabBike but I'm not going to stand in the street at 4am after a night out waiting for one of them to find me.

Furthermore, their drivers and riders are far more likely to be in and around the central areas than in places like Ratchada.

maybe you should come out of the retirement home a bit more, then you would see that there are a lot more young people than you think

Thailand is a retirement village really and so many have health issue so walking long distances isn't real possible for everyone

Depends where in Thailand you live or hang out.

Where I live and go out it's pretty rare to see any old blokes, most people are in their late 20's to early 40's.

I see some on the BTS and of course some places you'll see more, but they don't go to the bars, clubs or restaurants that I frequent and there is only one old guy living in my condo.

I'm staying in Huay Kwang, 4 stops from Sukhumvit and along the way is the Train Market behind Esplanade for cheap drinks and food, hardly any foreigners too. Plenty of shops, restaurants, malls in the area and I've never had a problem getting a taxi back from Asoke with the meter on.

You can find cheaper than 25000 in Ratchada for a very decent condo, unless you need to spend over 20000, then 15000 per month will be perfect for a decent place.
