Report: Trump revealed highly classified info to Russians

President Trump revealed highly classified intelligence information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador while meeting with them last week at the White House, The Washington Post reported.

Any country that shares intelligence with USA spooks is not very intelligent. How can this possibly surprise anyone?

That may be so but this is actually a really serious breech of security. Every single Trump supporter needs to face one fact now, Trump has just made anything HRC did look like A kid taking candy off another in the playground. This is VERY serious. NOW lets see the size of the GOP balls.

All Western countries and probably majority of others share intelligence information with US agencies. Surely you had a point there....somewhere.

Not sure his point, but there are indications the trump leaks to the Russians was more than he tells what the U.S. would normally classify as allies. There is a disturbing pattern with trump where he appears to love leaders from autocratic nations more than democratic ones.

Not aware of any credible "indications" suggesting information supposedly leaked by Trump was more than conveyed to allies. Too generalized a statement there. Do share.

It seems I got the detail wrong. The intelligence info was apparently from a partner so that's different issue. Both sensitive and classified and leaked to the Russians without the permission of the partner. Of course any president has the right to declassify intelligence but we're getting here into his competency and judgment in relation to Russia.

Trump's intelligence slip-up may be the straw that breaks the camel's back

To date, Republicans have stood by Trump or at least stayed silent in the face of his many foibles. But, in a number of conversations Monday evening with Republican House members and GOP strategists, there was a widespread feeling that this time Trump might have gone too far.

Kellyanne Conway secretly hates Trump: Mika and Joe

"White House senior adviser Kellyanne Conway said defending then-candidate Donald Trump on TV was so creepy, she felt like she needed a shower afterward, the co-hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” said Monday."

“This is a woman, by the way, who came on our show during the campaign and would shill for Trump in extensive fashion,” said Mika Brzezinski, who hosts the show with new fiancé Joe Scarborough."

“And then she would get off the air, the camera would be turned off, the microphone would be taken off and she would say, ‘Blech, I need to take a shower,’ because she disliked her candidate so much.”

But so far there has been nothing that is gone too far for most Republicans. So I'll believe it when I see them actually joining with the Democrats and taking action.

Well if he keep this tempo he wont last the year out. But how can the republican rise from this? They are doomed and they know it.

Unreal. Just read a report if Trump is ousted, the stock market could crash up to 40%. Lovely.

Nope, just get ready to become a millionaire within 10 mins and get ready to short the market. Every cloud has a silver lining.

Trump: I have 'absolute right' to share facts with Russia

President Trump early Tuesday said he has an "absolute right" to share facts with Russia after a report late Monday that he revealed highly classified intelligence to Russian officials during a meeting last week.

They were doomed before the election as well. Trump is just stringing it out a little further.

I simply don't see how somebody with the integrity of General McMaster can continue as NSA now.

That's because you apply an imaginary moral standard, motivated by your own biased take on things. For example, even if he concurs with your point of view, McMaster may conclude that his presence is still better than his absence. Or perhaps he realizes that politics are what they are, and it ain't always pretty. Or perhaps he knows the actual details and facts, thus able to make a more reasoned decision. Always easier to moralize from the outside.

If unfit, you must apply pressure to make QUIT.

I guess I'm an "expert" too.How bright do you have to be to have realized trump was unfit?
I remember polls showing even a significant percentage of his own voters doubted his fitness for the office!

The experts were right: Trump isn’t fit to be president

We live in an age that denigrates knowledge, dislikes expertise and demonizes experts. But now we have proof that experts are sometimes right.

...

At the time, Trump dismissed this letter as “nothing more than the failed Washington elite looking to hold onto their power.” But the “elites” were right. The experts were right.  Next time maybe more people will heed them.

Trump Compromised Israel By Leaking Intel. Israel’s Response Is Chilling

“To know that this intelligence is shared with others, without our prior knowledge? That is, for us, our worst fears confirmed.” They explained further, “We have an arrangement with America which is unique to the world of intelligence sharing. We do not have this relationship with any other country.”

Comey Memo Says Trump Asked Him to End Flynn Investigation

WASHINGTON — President Trump asked the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, to shut down the federal investigation into Mr. Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, in an Oval Office meeting in February, according to a memo Mr. Comey wrote shortly after the meeting.

“I hope you can let this go,” the president told Mr. Comey, according to the memo.

A fun, new word to me -- beclowning.

Quote

The continued beclowning of the Trump administration

All new administrations make mistakes and have staff who don’t work out. The pace of errors in this administration, however, is unprecedented.

...

After nearly four months as president, there is little evidence of growth or change from the president. There is only the beclowning. For the United States, the next few years will be nothing better than an exercise in damage control.

That was a fair comment and this is a news story still in development.

This snippet addresses this issue as well from the allied perspective. Surely, if the U.S. is going to share sensitive info that was shared from an ally to an adversary / enemy, the first step is to get agreement from the allied source. If not, the trust relationship with allies is DAMAGED.

US allies taken aback by intel sharing revelation

An EU-US meeting on airline security and electronics devices Wednesday afternoon in Brussels will allow US deputy secretary Elaine Duke to share information with EU allies, the diplomat told CNN.
"It is somewhat surprising, though, that intel was shared on this issue, with Russian Minister (Sergey) Lavrov, before being shared with ministers of allied countries," the diplomat said.

The overall tone of the article is less alarming then most posts commenting on future cooperation between US and foreign intelligence services. I'd pay attention to two comments - one about the possibility of limiting information flow through political (as opposed to military/security) channels, and the other about "cutting the cord" not being a realistic option. The comment cited with regard to sharing information with the Russian prior to doing so with other allies may relate to the first issue.

Again, not that I think Trump acted reasonably or responsibly - my posts had to do more with assessment of expected reactions.

With trump it's not one outrage.

Or the outrage of the day.

It's that there are so many of them.

Some significant. Some trivial.

Quite obviously to anyone paying attention -- he's not fit to be president.

I think most Americans get that and most of the world gets that too.

This situation DEGRADES the USA in a very real way. The opposite of his MAGA strong man con man promises.

Hope that he is going to magically change, at age 70, to something entirely different is absurd.

The trumpists that say there is a concerted effort to remove him are entirely correct. Because he DESERVES to be removed and the USA DESERVES much better than that mentally bizarre CLOWN.

Four minutes seems to be pushing it with the man child.

Better to keep communications to TWEET length.

For Americans, this is embarrassing.

A once great power reduced to foreign powers treating our leader as mentally disabled and mentally bizarre.

Don't get me wrong. I have great compassion for the mentally disabled and mentally bizarre. But such people are clearly not FIT for the presidency!
