Feels like a prostrate problem, but ..

This one has me tricked.

The pain feels like it is coming from my bottom or inside my scrotum, but also feels like I have a fungal infection all around my bottom and crutch.

Because I swim a lot, sometimes I used to wear my nylon swimmers as underpants to the pool. I felt I picked up a fungal infection from this.

I tried antifungal cream, but the cream didn't work. I then tried some cortisone cream, that didn't work.

I saw a skin specialist and she said she thought I had a mushroom fungal infection, gave me tabs and cream and that didn't work.

I went to the hospital and they did a rectal exam, which didn't hurt, plus checked for infections etc and everything normal except for an enlarged prostrate, but nothing to worry about, because normal for my age.

So this has been going on for over a month so went back to another hospital, that I do my annual check up at and asked for a psa test and ultrasound of the prostrate area. The dr said I didn't need one as had had one in May this year and everything was fine. Had the tests and ultrasound confirmed a larger than normal prostrate, but the dr said no worries and no medicine.

I had my regular 5 year colonoscopy 2 years ago and they found some non cancerous polyps which they removed.

The problem is worse when I'm lying or sitting down, so I'm pretty sure it's my prostrate or lower back that is causing the problem, but if it is my prostrate, and the drs say no problem, for a no problem complaint it is causing a lot of pain.

I also did a course of 10 days on antibiotics in the early stages with no change in the symptoms.

I will consult my dr when I get back to Australia in a few weeks, but in the meantime, if it is prostrate problems what medicine to take to ease the symptoms.

If it is prostrate, why didn't it hurt when I had the rectal probe?

How can it be my bowel when I only recently had the colonoscopy?

Stumped.

Prostate problems do not usually manifest as you describe, but rather with difficulty passing urine.

Neither do problems in the colon.

Fungal infections and also eczema due to allergy (possibly to laundry detergent, or fabric) can both cause itching/discomfort in the groin area but would usually be accompanied by a visible rash.

Don't try to medicate yourself for a presume prostate problem. You need to see a good GP and get to the bottom of what is causing it (no pun intended), which is very unlikely to be prostate.

Thanks. Unfortunately, this then leads me to think that it is coming from my back problem, as, over the last few years I have been getting more and more groin pain and abducted pain. Last year my my back pain management dr said my leg shin splint pain and abductor pain was probably coming from my back as the L5 disc space was narrow. I don't really want a 5th back operation...not much fun.

Could my prostrate type pain be coming from my back?

As I explained, this is not prostate-type pain. It in no way  resembles prostate symptoms. The prostate is not located in the scrotum, and does not cause sensations there. It is located in the lower abdomen and  problems from it will manifest as trouble passing urine.

Yes, what you describe, if it is not due to a superficial skin problem, could be related to compression of nerves coming out of the spine.
