Myanmar - Taukkyan War Cemetery (some 20 km outside Rangoon).

The Taukkyan War Cemetery contains the graves of over 6000 allied soldiers and memorials together with the names of over 27,000 allied soldiers who lost their lives in Burma during the Second World War. The place is very well maintained by the Commonwealth Graves Commission and is worth is visit.

All the best with your legs Samui Jimmy.  Thanks for helping to make a great thread.  I find Ibuprofen 500mg good for the pain.  But it is not a long term solution and you should only take it after a meal.  If you can get the pain and inflammation down then with some rest and light exercise you might get back on deck.

Myanmar - Mandalay.

The Maha Muni Pagoda or Mahar Gandaryone Monastery is situated in Amarapura near the famous U Bein Bridge. The monastery has more than 3,000 monks in different ages including some very young novices. Every day the monks are lining up along the road at 11:00am and have their main daily meal.

Some impressions….

Myanmar - Mandalay:

Some impressions of welknown restaurant named Tuu tuu.

As you see on the pictures this is a typical Myanmar restaurant set-up. Upon entering there is a display to select your food which is shortly later served at your table. There is usually a variety of healthy food at (for us) very low prices.

You can also see that there was enough space for me to sit and enough staff to serve me.

Sagyin - handicraft center

The Sagyin handicraft center is located some 40 km north of Mandalay. In this somewhat chaotic area all kinds of religious handicraft are fabricated. From marble Buddha’s to copper ornaments for temples.

The shops are (half) in the open air and are situated on opposite sides of a narrow street with much traffic. Working conditions are not up to western standards i.e. no masks, safety boots, gloves, goggles etc.

A very interesting area to visit  as it is a mixture of ‘industry and daily life’. I made some shots I would like to share ...

Sad that they are not wearing face masks.  Even the cheap paper ones might save them from death by silicosis.

Health risks of marble dust.

Taoism: shit happens

Buddhism: if shit happens, it isn't really shit

Islam: if shit happens, it is the will of Allah

Catholicism: if shit happens, you deserve it

Judaism: why does this shit always happen to us?

Atheism: I don't believe this shit

I was appalled by the lack of any safety measures and regulations evere. On one of the previous pictures you can see that they just unloaded a big marble Buddha from a truck. All is done by 'manpower' !
