BANGKOK:-- THE CHIEF of the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC), Meechai Ruchupan, assured politicians yesterday that they would have sufficient time to prepare for the election as the law on political parties is a top priority.

The CDC would forward the law to the National Legislative Assembly first to ensure political parties would have adequate time, Meechai said.

The chief charter writer also said the National Council for Peace and Order was considering rescinding its orders and announcements one by one based on necessity.

"... they would have sufficient time to prepare for the election..."

What is there to prepare for now?  Before, preparation consisted of raising enough money to pay off the electorate to vote for you. Now, it doesn't matter who wins if someone can come in, kick you out, and take over.

Now all one needs to do is play Politics 101...Make up what the people want to hear. Make promises...

"For a pocket full of mumbles, such are promises
All lies and jests
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest"

And then, if you get elected,  ignore whatever you said and do what you wanted to do in the first place;  Grab up as much power as you can.

Oh it is so good to read from all of you learn ed  scholars.

Did you all remember what Taksin did for Thailand when

he was in power, before he vacated Thailand to stay free.

How about his sister, was she really a great democratic leader?

People in the past were kicked out of their power positions because

the power went to their heads, and too much money to their pockets

and, that is why the present PM is still in power.  Do not forget or try

to cover up the past.  Just because  you come from the USA, Britain,

or somewhere in Europe that is still democratic, and does not have

Shari law imposed yet, you should consider yourselves lucky.

I am just very glad to see that Thailand now has a new King.

the rest will happen when Thailand is ready.

Maybe you can refresh our memory on all the other successful initiatives of Thai Military political party Governments in Thailand? Same as TS, money, power, cronyism. Thai Generals are more politicians than the politicians themselves.

The previous Thai military Generals were in power those years

because of the way Thailand was in the past and was not

ready for a democratic government. When the general

population tried for this kind of government, then that word,

corruption reared its ugly head. And yes I have been going to

Thailand since the 80s, and I seen the country and situation

every time,  so if you have travelled over 15 to 20 times to

Thailand like I have, and actually watched the political

situation every time, then go ahead and tell me what I missed.

Nice Alias,  by the way,  spend time in Pattaya much?

I have lived and worked in Bangkok for a decade.

I don't think anyone denies that corruption is rife throughout all walks of life in Thailand, despite the military and the years they spent in power (a large amount of time since 1932) nothing has changed. They are exactly the same and the whole military organisation is symptomatic of everything which is wrong in Thailand. Cronyism, corruption, nepotism etc etc. Why would they want to change it, it has given them, their families, supporters immense power and wealth and continues to do so.

I presume you have read about Thai Military leaders like Field Marshall Sarit Thanarat? Did you miss that?

Well I glad that I have not lived in Thailand for a bunch of years yet.

I have been married to a Thai Canadian woman from a

large city in Thailand, and talking with her family and all the

friends there in Thailand or our friends who live in Canada

I have formed the opinion, that Thailand has tried to have

democratic leaders, who became corrupt  and were either

ousted by the military, and even then got a sister into power

by buying enough votes. That does not make the chances to ,

get a real democracy, either.    Since you have lived in the country,

would you have  a better view, of the situation?  I have only been

married for 18 years, so maybe I have not kept my ear on the Thailand

political situation long enough. Sorry if I upset a couple of expats

who have enjoyed their lives in that country. I am a bit jealous, as

I only have a dozen friends in BKK, and 3 other places like Chang Mai

Udon Thani, Phuket City and Buri Ram,  etc ,  but of course these guys are

all Geezers like I am,  so we are considered too red neck by people around

us.  I think that some day Thailand can get a democratic government if

the people in power, remember that they are there for the people and  try

to stay honest, and go after those who are corrupt. Good luck to that!

I don't think that anyone is upset, and your view is as valid as anyone else's is. Your view is perhaps formed by your wife and friends etc others peoples are reached by other means, no one is right or wrong, just opinions.

My view is that the Military as much, if not more than any politician is complicit in the current state of affairs in Thailand and have no reason or desire to make it any different. Your view is different. Fair enough, no hard feelings, TVF is to air opinions.

You are not giving the Government the benefit of the doubt. I believe the will call the election next year.

New government will do a great job. Please help to make it happen.

Make Thailand Great Again.

Agreed as long as they follow the invisible road map which sees the status quo unchanged.

It isn't corruption that has kept democracy from blossoming here, it's superstitious belief. Thais must be some of the most utterly credulous people on Earth. National and underground lotteries pay out at an almost literally incredible rate of 50%, for example.

To understand that the real goal of the coordinated 2013 street action and 2014 military coup was getting rid of democracy altogether, you have to ask yourself who makes use of all the smoke and mirrors, who pays for and promotes fairy tales, who wants to keep Thais undereducated and cut off from the rest of the world, and who owns the national TV stations. Just like Burma all these years. It's all pretty simple, really. The fact that Thailand has fared better was not a result of this group's guidance, as they would like you to believe, but because of those generational heroes who have risked their lives and freedom to oppose them. What you see is not what you get.
