We can not judge we do not have the facts yet or even the blood alcohol level

The man does however look a bit guilty to say the least

The odds are not in his favor

But this is the reason I always have my car camera running, we do not know what the cyclists did, or even if they had rear lights working

Drinking and driving is unacceptable, these days when out and drinking my wife drives home she has one glass of wine and thats it

In years gone by that could have been me, and many others, lets not forget that

Whatever God Bless the man, he is not going to have a Happy Christmas

this is true years ago before I 'saw sense' i took chances with drink driving here too. his life is now down the toilet and we should not gloat over that too much and I feel sorry for him - what a way to learn!   just don't do it!

He admitted to drinking from 4pm until 9pm - what more do you need to know?

A little amazing no feelings for others whatsoever

I would be very grateful you are not the judge and jury here

In my world, a little old fashioned maybe, you remain innocent until proven guilty, the attitude of hEAaDy is very much the lynch mobs style from the Wild west, also unacceptable in western societies

hEAaDy is of course very much entitled to his opinion, but he might one day need a little love and understanding

Drinking and Driving today is unacceptable, in the Western World, unfortunately or fortunately depending how we look at things Thailand in many ways lags the west by maybe 50/60 yrs

I still love Thailand

He had been drinking for FIVE hours.

What do you think his reading would be?

Depends on whether he was drinking 10 beers an hour or 1.

He told police that he knew he had hit ‘something’, but had no idea that it was a motorbike until he eventually stopped

No comment!!

One of my biggest fears of driving here....hitting a motor bike and being in the wrong....

Does it matter if a foreigner is in the right or in the wrong if he hits and kills (or injures) someone?

I don't fear driving here because I don't drive. There's too much that can be easily hit even if you're a careful driver. Even if you hit nothing, sooner or later something could hit you.

It is quite possible to stay legal after drinking for 5 hours. It's a matter of how much and body weight.

regardless of thr situation, this guy being a non-Thai WILL feel the full force of Thai law. no amount ny of apologies or monkhood can erase his deed.

Maybe a message to the many other farangs who drink and drive over here, thinking, if I get caught, I'll pay a fine and walk away.

It would be an automatic jail sentence in the West.

Rubbish no automatic sentence at all. There is an investigation by proper police, evidence collected in a professional fashion with everything leading to judgement by fair juristic authority, with ample representation for the accused.

Then if it is found you killed somebody while bladdered you get sentenced by "impaired driving causing death", go to prison (up to life ) with no getting out of it by payments no matter who you are!

Off the charts. A 19 year old mind stuck in a 41 year old body. I can think back years and years to when I did this stupidity. Cops were fewer and farther between and a lot more lenient. Today they hand you your head on a platter and your only transportation left is your 2 feet. You have the plague as far as insurance companies are concerned but there are insurance sharks out there that will feed on you. Its a cruel world especially for the stupid.

So take that you got your rubbish Lightning reply. I am glad he did not pick on me. It always amazes my how one starts a conversation with a belittling word like rubbish.

Yup. Bit different if you're Thai. Then they need to find a Burmese to take the blame.

If you kill someone in the UK whilst drink driving, you are definitely going to jail , which was  the point of the post.

All you have done is contradict it, then agree !

Strange ?

Quiet day at the office is it ?

A young baby, a pretty wife, good job, appears to be living comfortably, family and here and abroad, socialising then bang. Snap.

Two people are dead, and everything's changed/over. How many lives affected? If this is not a reminder to drivers not sure what is.

RIP to those riders.

How many times must it be said that drinking and driving do not mix. Even if you are moving the car just to "PARK".

If you have more than one bear or glass of wine then take a taxi

No excuse Taxis by western standards are cheap here in Thailand And if a Taxi is not available a Tuk Tuk or cycle taxi will do

But for god sake dont drink and drive ITS THAT SIMPLE

Would be interesting to see if the bike had lights, indicators, mirrors and whether the guys had helmets atleast. I worry for farang. Could be one sided unless someone can seriously check these other things out.

Drinking and driving is stupid but what about the other guys also.

All to many times people jump in front of me intoxicated and no helmets and all it takes is a split second. Luckily i dont drink anymore but have had a no licensed underage girl just idiodically drive in front of me. She survived but it was absolutely no fault of mine but i was the bad guy. Luckily one citizen told the truth.

Stupid guy for drink driving here though. Needs to be more advertising but i guess that costs money. Needs to be adds/billboards aimed at tourists to warn them that they will never be treated fairly so drinking and driving is a no no.

Get a dashcam, actually, get 10!

advise  car  cam, i  have  one  front  and rear, once  stopped at a T junction waiting to turn right a  motorcycle pulled up my  nearside  wing (LH side) front wheel level with my front  wing.

I waited for a gap  in the traffic until i could go.......for some reason she then turned her bike  wheel  right and promptly drove into the side of my car....................I think she may have thought Id  gone or  forgotten i was there, too preoccupied with  looking left to remember I was on her right.

Lack of attention here is  rife.
