Maintaining Healthcare options in the old country

Not sure if trhis is the is the correct forum but if not it will be moved. A recent post discussed health insurance to get care in Thailand versus flying home if you still have coverage there. One thing to consider is that Thailand is not state of the art in medical care or availalbility of new medicines. Just had my first Pacemaker read here in Thailand after getting a replacement back in  the USA in September. The cost was a cool $62,000 of which I paid zero. The Medtronic technician today told me I have the latest model which is not yet available here in Thailand. The cardio doctor back in the USA prescribed two new medicines that would have replaced three that I am currently taking. I got scrips filled in the USA but did not start taking them until I made sure I could get the new meds here in Thailand. Neither of the two new ones are for sale here in Thailand per Fascino. This is the second time this has happened to me. One of the new meds was a replacement for Lasix (Furosemide) which would have kept me from getting up to go to the toilet 3 or 4 times a night. Maintain the home land coverage for major problems if you can is my advice.
