Dental Sleep teeth grinding guard in Bangkok

Featured Replies

I have been grinding my teeth, at least I think I am and would like to get a sleep dental guard for this purpose. I asked my dental clinic about one and they said 4,200 baht and I just think that is too much to pay sorry. I have ordered a regular sports mouthpiece from Lazada (200 baht) to try out but I pretty much know will not be as comfortable as one that is done by making an impression like a clinic would do it. I live in Bangkok and was just wondering if anyone has any information where I could get one made for substantially less that 4,200 baht in this area or perhaps a kit that I can do it myself that would give a good fit. I am attaching a photo of what I am really looking for. Thanks in advance.

Custom made ones do cost that much and more so afraid I can't help you. I used store bought for years and did not do the trick, ended up cracking a tooth as a result. After which I went ahead and got a  good custom made one, I forget the cost but it was over the price you quote.

Thanks Sheryl, I was afraid that might be the case. I guess I will have to go with the quoted price unless someone speaks up here soon that knows something we don't but I doubt that is going to happen. I guess like in your case it is really cheap insurance if you cause damage like your tooth cracking. Thanks you for your reply and Happy Holidays.

My dentist in Thailand gave me two options for a night splints to remedy my teeth grinding problems while sleeping - a Soft Splint Night Guard which costs about 2500 baht, and an  Occlussal/Hard Splint Night Guard which cost about 6000 baht. Maybe you can ask your dentist if he has the Soft Splint, and if they would suit your condition if you're looking for a cheaper alternative.

I had a soft custom night guard (made in Canada) for several years that I was happy with at the time. Then I had some dental work done in BKK that necessitated a new one due to the change in profile so I went to a multi-level large dental center off Sukhumvit that is often recommended on here with horrible results. An "occlusion specialist" made and modified three different ones and could not obtain a fit. She even tried (more than once) adding additional liquid material (nasty smelling and tasting stuff) while the device was in my mouth to let it harden. In the end it was a total failure and I was able to get most of my money back. I had to do without until I returned to Canada to get one made there, this time a hard one which I like much better now than the previous soft one.

Soft

- a little cheaper

- more comfortable when new because it gives a little

- gets hard after 6-10 months, discolors, gets rather gross and difficult to fully clean.

- wears down faster than hard ones.

Hard

- More precision required to make it as it has no give and must fit perfectly.

- Must be worn always or as teeth can move a little the fit can be affected.

- Very easy to keep clean using denture cleaning tablets and mineral buildup removes with soaking in vinegar/water.

With either, if you have any fillings or crown work done, a high chance it will not fit after so get any pending work done first. And as Sheryl said, you get what you pay for.
