Beaten-up boy’s mother demands teacher’s dismissal

BANGKOK: -- The mother of a seven-year old school boy harshly beaten up by his teacher lodged a complaint with the Education Ministry, demanding that the teacher be dismissed.

Accompanied by a lawyer and her elder sister, Mrs Boonsueb Khanthong said in her complaint addressed to the education permanent secretary that the assistant teacher of Sang-am Wittaya school, Ms Chalida Paichitprapaporn, does not fit to be a teacher because of her use of violence against her child who, she added, has become afraid of going to school after the incident.

Her complaint was received by Mr Prasert Boonruang, the deputy education permanent secretary, who promised to look into the case without delay. He assured Mrs Boonsueb that the ministry would not protect the teacher in question.

incredible and VERY SICK that they have to beg for the teacher to be ONLY dismissed.

in the USA this teacher would be in jail facing a long list of charges.

and a 10 million USD lawsuit would be filed against the school district and the teacher.

Thailand really has a long way to go.

"...the deputy education permanent secretary promised to look into the case without delay..."

Frankly, there's not too much to look into if the following statement from an earlier ThaiVisa article is to be believed - "...Corporal punishment has been banned in Thai schools for many years..." (https://is.gd/caIWWg).

So, no need to mediate, just incarcerate !!!

Agree with most of that except the 10 million dollar lawsuit..... Why should everyone have to pay for one person's madness, which is also open to abuse.

Thailand may have it's faults but so does the USA with it's sue culture.

I don’t know…maybe violence does have a place in schools. Maybe it is a way to address the problem of bullies in the classroom.

Unfortunately the bullies in question happen to be masquerading as teachers. The primary reason these bullies get away with this crap is because their victims cannot fight back and they are immune from any negative consequences. But if every teacher in the country knew without doubt that assaulting a student would result in a very public and very physical confrontation with the victim’s family…

They just might think of more appropriate ways to enforce classroom discipline.

There has to be a monetary example set,  so that it doesn't happen again

Good to see the child mother insisting on action and not accepting the bribe to be quiet.  Hopefully, I live in hope most of the time, others will follow the lead and report similar events in future so that these criminals in disguise are properly dealt with.

This clearly comes under the description of torture of a child, not beating.....willful act of torturing a child for pleasure....

Agree. 99 times, surely even a person with temper control problems (and that doesn't excuse anything) would have realized well before 99 that she should stop.

Different point, in another report it says she's a teacher's assistant not a teacher. Do Teacher's assistants normally punish kids? Surely the teacher alone is responsible to hand out punishments if needed (and I don't mean corporal punishment).

Different point, I can't find any details of the school and location. Can someone please share.
