Multiple Myeloma

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have multiple myeloma and have been treated on a monthly basis in Australia.

The monthly trips are proving to be a serious pain and pretty bloody expensive.

My Australian Hematologist has agreed that if I can source the 2 major drugs I need here in Thailand I could cut my trips down to 1 every 3 months.

Far more acceptable.

The drugs I need are Zometa 4 mg administered intravenously every month and 50mg of Thalidomide taken each morning.

Has any one here had the misfortune to be in a similar situation?

Any suggestions as to the most economically viable way of getting such drugs?

Any experiences to recount.

All welcome.

Cheers

These drugs are available in Thailand and can be obtained from a hematologist. They will not, however, be cheap as they are imports.

If you are in the Chiang Mai area consult Dr. Weerasak Nawarawong at Sripat. He specializes in MM.

If you are in the Bangkok area consult Dr. Panisinee Lawasut  at Chulalongkhorn Univ (after hours clinic)

If you are in Issan are see Dr. Supatsorn Klubchareon at Khin Kaen Univ Hosp (they too have an after hours clinic

And if anywhere else in Thailand go to whichever of the above is nearest

Hi, thanks for the info.

Chiang Rai is 2 hours away so I guess we'll try there first. We tried Chiang Mai and the Bangkok Hospital there and the cost was staggering.

I intend exploring the possibility of ordering the drugs from overseas and arranging for the administration here. Go to  be worth a look.
