Report Monitor Lizard Curry Backlash: Chumphon Chief Caught in Legal Storm
A monitor lizard at the Lumpini Park in Bangkok. Photo by undefined via Canva In the serene province of Chumphon, a storm is brewing over a viral video showing a local community leader cooking and consuming a monitor lizard. This controversial act has whipped up a frenzy among residents and netizens, who are calling for legal action against the leader. Consuming monitor lizards is illegal under Thai law, as they are a protected species, and many argue that a figure of authority should uphold, not flout, these rules. The heated debate ignited when locals in Pathio district spotted the video on Facebook. The community chief had posted visuals and commentary from his kitchen, informally discussing how he turned the lizard into a local delicacy known as Khua Kling, a spicy southern Thai curry. Despite his jovial tone and the laughter from a woman believed to be his wife behind the camera, residents were not amused. Sharing the post widely, they alerted media outlets, insisting that the authorities take action. Opinions online reveal a nation divided. Some members of the public express outrage, stressing the importance of environmental preservation and legal consequences for the violation. Meanwhile, others voice sympathy towards the leader, highlighting the economic struggles that could drive someone to hunt for food in unconventional places. Comments supporting his actions point to the financial burdens and the abundance of these reptiles, which some claim harm local agriculture and livestock. However, the Royal Forest Department has confirmed the illegality of such actions, pointing out that the monitor lizard is firmly listed as a protected species in Thailand. Violations of the Wildlife Preservation and Protection Act attract penalties, with violators facing a potential five-year prison sentence or a fine reaching THB 500,000 (around £11,200). Currently, local enforcement and wildlife protection agencies have not yet summoned the community leader for questioning. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger 2025-05-09 -

When is my 90 day report due?
What @HuaHinNew is saying is that although <form TM47> and the <online reporting system> serve the same purpose (to satisfy the Thai Immigration requirement for 90-day reporting), they are implemented as two different data processing systems that are not interconnected and do not talk to each other. -

Israel's Smotrich says victory means Gaza fully 'destroyed'
Whats that little leprechauns opinion have to do with this topic? Israel had to close its embassy in Ireland due to its extreme stance. Israel envoy to Dublin explains ‘brave and correct’ embassy closure Just a month after taking office, she quickly realized that the Irish conduct was anti-Israel. “In the past year, we’ve seen how the Irish have crossed every boundary of extremism, to the point of obsession against us. When you ask the International Court of Justice to change the definition of ‘genocide’ to fit what they want us to be guilty of, which is what the Irish did, then it’s already an obsession.” https://www.jns.org/israel-envoy-to-dublin-explains-unusual-embassy-move/ Ireland’s President has shamed his nation It is now seen as the most anti-Semitic country in the EU “What is Ireland’s problem with Jews?” English friends ask. I used to believe critics were exaggerating somewhat, but these days there’s no denying that the low-level antisemitism I remember from my Irish youth has blossomed latterly into shocking Jew-hatred. Ireland used to have the old “Jews-crucified-Jesus” prejudice along with suspicion of unfamiliar religions, but this days, poisoned politically by the extreme left, who love to identify with victims, it has metamorphosed into something much worse. https://archive.ph/WbTzv https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/01/28/ireland-anti-semitism-jew-hatred-president/ -

Accident High-Speed Crash Kills Truck Driver as Car Vaults Median in Chai Nat
Picture courtesy of Matichon. A crash at a three-way junction in Chai Nat province claimed the life of a 57-year-old truck driver after a speeding car flew over the central reservation and collided head-on with his stationary lorry. CCTV footage captured the dramatic moment at Wang Kra Chai junction in Wang Kai Thuean subdistrict, Hankha district. A Nissan Almera driver, travelling at high speed from central Hankha, lost control while negotiating the curve, jumped the central barrier, and struck a stationary truck loaded with hay that was waiting at a red light. Emergency services from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation responded swiftly. They found Mr Manit, the 57-year-old truck driver from Lopburi province, dead at the scene. His body was severely crushed in the driver’s seat. The car’s driver, a 40-year-old man known only as Mr A, from Sisaket province and now residing in Sankhaburi district, was seriously injured and rushed to Hankha Hospital. Mr A has been taken into police custody and will face charges of reckless driving causing death and property damage. Police have also ordered a blood alcohol test, and further charges will be added if results show he was over the legal limit. Local residents expressed little surprise at the incident, claiming the car’s driver is well-known in the area for drinking and speeding. “Everyone around here knows he drives fast and often drinks,” said one local. “It was only a matter of time.” Police are continuing their investigation and have contacted the victim’s family to arrange funeral proceedings.
