webfact
Mcdonald’s in the Vatican – why the cardinals are seeing red Catherine Hardy ROME: -- Mcdonald’s has opened a food outlet in a building belonging to the Vatican in the centre of Rome – within sight of St Peter’s Square. However, a group of cardinals have already had their fill of the fast-food giant – and it has nothing to do with the fact that survey after survey has suggested the US giant’s golden arches are more recognisable than the cross. The concerns are practical, not moral. Italian media say the protesting prelates say they were not consulted about the site of the new restaurant, which has already been dubbed “McVatican”. They say they will also have to help pay for building work to make sure the site conforms to needs and regulations. Monthly rent Media reports suggest the Vatican will collect a monthly rent of 30,000 from the US food giant for the building, which is sited just outside the Vatican State itself. It will be open from 0630 am to 2300 pm. Cardinal Elio Sgreccia, president emeritus of the Pontifical Academy for Life, described it as “abhorrent” and a “perversion of the neighbourhood”. -- © Copyright Euronews 2017-01-
Credo
Well when they call it a perversion, that is something that many of them know quite a lot about.
daveAustin
They spout all that tripe from their ivory towers about helping folk and yet wall themselves off from the rest of the world in the lap of luxury, all the while scrounging away and charging people silly money to see their palatial abodes. The entire city should be disbanded and given over to Syrian refugees. Get the cardinals flipping burgers at Maccie D's.

Jonmarleesco
'It will be open from 0630 am to 2300 pm.' The 24-hour format doesn't differentiate between ante- and post-meridian. 'Cardinal Elio Sgreccia, president emeritus of the Pontifical Academy for Life, described it as “abhorrent” and a “perversion of the neighbourhood”.' An interesting observation from a senior member of an institution well acquainted with such descriptive language.

anotheruser
The pope has no moral authority to even criticize Mickey D. Considering what the church has done in the past.
peergin
Two thousand years ago a Roman emperor already said: "pecunia non olet." Meaning, money does not stink [no matter how it is earned]. The pope is simply applying the same principle today. That is hardly surprising given that money is more important to the vatican than religion.
