Cheating, lying, stealing, abusing, killing--all forgivable if you are loyal to the right people. It's what the system is based on.

There's simply no acknowledgment of the concept of public good nor recognition that individuals who are not already in a social relationship with you have any rights whatsoever. This is why people don't pull over for ambulances or intervene in public instances of abuse.

The leaders embody and define the public good, and you follow their orders. Luckily for you, your bad behavior gets excused if you're obsequious enough to the phu yai of your organization.

That and the belief in karma - you reap in this life what you have sown in past lives. That's why the peasants cannot be entrusted with voting because they're peasants, therefore they must not have been sufficiently virtuous in their past lives. That's the concept that lies behind the Yellow Shirt/junta narrative of leaving government to "virtuous" people.

These two quotes hit the nail on the head, & until these cultural attitudes change nothing will ever change here...

 Don't hold your breath waiting.....

Same exact thing happened about 4 years ago. They even had some electronic devices strapped to their legs that would vibrate and give them the answers to the tests. They paid 100k each for that.

My friend who took the test without cheating got quite a good score, but after they cancelled it, he decided not to become a policeman. Thanks god.

" positons of integrity" lol ahhhhhhhhh thanks for the chuckle.... Thailand and integrity are like oil and water.... anywhere and everywhere.

If you read a little deeper, you would know why these positions no longer have integrity... that's the sarcasm and pointing out the cause and effect over the many decades...

Yup, so it's easyier to just pay 500 baht for the driverslicense....Are there even Thai who failed for their driverslicense?

My grandma failed all the time, after 6 attempts she gave up so she has never driven a car untill she died.

John Lennon failed about six times and hated driving , however in West Oz it will take U 5 years to get a full unrestricted drivers licence,  these day's.

Shocking !  You mean there is an actual exam in place ?  There is no crony-ism ?  It is hard to believe somebody even bothered with an exam.

I heard of a spoof First World police academy exam once that had the question "The police and organised crime - a demarcation dispute?"

Cheating is endemic across all sections of Thai society. The worse thing is getting caught not the act of cheating. Sad really but this isn't new news to anyone who has been here long enough, knows it is rife and is widespread. not only to the police but the military, universities schools and other sections of business such as those working at Thai airways for promotion etc.

Spot on! This triggers the question; what future does such a society/country have?!? I don't expect it to be a very bright one.

This is great news if they are finally starting to purify the police force and starting from the top.

They are not so don't expect any changes.. If you read this article above you will see that the police are only reacting to a repoty they found in sanook.com.

"No details were given on the percentages of these in the sanook.com report but 418 individuals are believed to be facing punishment either internally or according to the criminal law. "

It is about the same you see all the time. The police react to something shared in the news or online.

I surely do hope they will take measures to stop cheating in all testing done in all facets or professions. But, it costs a lot and many would fail and lose face.

They should apply this test to every single cop in and out of uniform to see just who knows and does their job correctly. Get rid of the ones who can't pass even if they have been cops for years. Or at the least, send them back to school until they are able to pass the police exam. Who knows how long cheating may have been going on.

I don't think they are suggesting reform....

" Sanit revealed after the meeting that the general consensus was that all the exams should be declared null and void. "

they are just suggesting not to bother with the exams because they are too much trouble.... TiT

I wonder if any of the candidates considered strategy I used when in University: KNOW the subject matter being tested. No cheating required and might even help if ever need to put concepts into action (well, criminal justice in Thailand another matter....).

The committee split the group of individuals who took and set the exams into three groups - those who cheated completely, those who cheated a little and those who answered honestly.

AKA those who refused to pay, those who paid <2000 and lastly those who paid >2000b

:)
