webfact
PM calls for morality to be present in Thai education BANGKOK, 11 January 2017 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has tasked the Ministry of Education with increasing the capabilities of Thailand’s students by more stringently overseeing teachers and staff and calling on the nation’s youths to develop themselves ahead of Children’s Day. Minister of Education Theerakiat Charoensettasin has led a group of exceptional youths who were awarded a variety of accolades to meet with Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha on the occasion of Children’s Day 2017. The premier bid the children heed his motto for this year’s day “Thai Children Care for Education for National Stability”. He urged them to develop themselves by taking an interest in education so that they may in the future become effective resources for the Kingdom. He especially noted the youths of today will be needed as the country approaches Thailand 4.0 and adamantly encouraged them to respect their nation, morality and the law. Gen Prayuth then revealed he has tasked the Ministry of Education with more closely overseeing the nation’s teachers and schools to make sure they instill students with morality, technological know-how and the knowledge needed to succeed in the modern world. -- nnt 2017-01-

Lannig
Thailand 4.0 ... <deleted> does this mean? they've failed to come up with 2.0 or 3.0 so 4.0 is the new buzzword? So-called moral education already is the only thing that's actually being taught in Thai schools. Respect for the flag, parents, religion, authority and such. At the expense of the real matters like science or languages.

Not quite the person who is asking for morality. Really a poor example of a person with morality and moral standing. Kids should be told not to emulate him. Eligius
Thai children are to 'become effective resources for the Kingdom'. Yes - 'resources' - things to be used, abused and discarded as needed. For the Kingdom means for the tiny elite who run the show, with a lack of compassion for the poor and powerless that would make the Buddha blush. 'Morality and the law' are preached to the children - but neither quality is existent in present-day Thailand - or likely to exist in the foreseeable future. Unless by 'morality' one means always kowtowing to authority and never questioning one's betters, and by 'law' one means having one set of (never-to-be-applied) laws for the tiny rich elite and the untouchable monkhood, and another set for the peasants who have no right to a voice or contrary opinion in their own land .... hobz
The first thing they gotta start teaching the kids is to question everything. Even question the laws.. being more specific would be illegal Edited January 11, 2017 by hobz

Teachers should focus on the reading, writing and arithmetic. Morality, as part of reading and writing is fine, so long as they learn to read and write well. Brer Fox
What makes the PM think the education system is overflowing with morality? The bashing of students by teachers, the cheating in exams, the corruption of school administration. Where does one look for a source of morality in Thailand which can be held up as an example for children to learn from? I am sure it is out there somewhere, but where? Normally it would be within religion but not even that seems to meet the critical test these days.

Please kids, note that the country and the government is NOT there to serve you, but YOU are there to serve the government, even those who grab power at gun point and then have the audacity to teach others about good morals.
