DavisH
As John McEnroe would say to the umpire....you can't be serious!! Even my Thai students don't like learning Thai and prefer English. I saw them studying for test today and asked them about it. They said most of it was useless (for everyday use)....

guzzi850m2
I think it's his lousy excuse for the poor English skills by Thais in public schools and not hiring some native English speakers or at least Filipinos. Funny, very funny.

edwinchester
“The most commonly used language today is of course English. If it was Thai, we’d be a great power already. Is there a chance? Yes. If you do what I say, one day Thai will be the world’s lingua franca,” Prayuth said. Megalomaniacal springs to mind. "If you do what I say....." Thai is spoken in, well, Thailand. Our illustrious leader has finally lost the plot. To be honest he lost the plot in his first message to the public the day he took power when he said he had 3 reasons for taking over. 1. Thailand is special. 2. Democracy in thailand has resulted in deaths. 3. We have more reasons

Shot
My bilingual children Thai/English always speak English when playing together. No one ever told them to do that, they just do it. One day I asked them about it, and they said "its easier, I can speak less and say more". That about sums it up.

I think that is only true if you drop half the words in a sentence, like. Go eat now? Vs Shall we go and eat now? Want eat? Vs Do you want to eat now? Etc,, english has many many words that are not really required in most common use.. Not sure about thai hehe

sanemax
He didnt mean it that way , what he meant was 'Thai language may become as popular as English one day, but , untill then, keep learning to speak English" is what he meant . What he said was taken out of context
