Police chief says he was misquoted by TV as "hair pulling cop" story rages on

HAT YAI: -- The Hat Yai police chief has said that Thai TV misquoted him when he made claims about how a student came off a motorcycle.

Kittichai Sangkhathaworn had earlier said that the policeman caught on video trying to stop the student for not wearing a helmet did not pull her hair.

He appears to be sticking to this but has now denied that he told a TV crew that she came off because she had not put up the stand on her bike and it hit a grille in the road causing her to come off, reports Daily News.

A Facebook user by the name of "DJ Jut" posted a video that showed a policeman approach three school girls on a motorcycle. They came off and one suffered a head injury after hitting a power pole.

Yesterday relatives of the girl went to see Kittichai to demand action. He told the relatives that he has set up a committee of enquiry that will report soon.

But he hit back at TV reports about claims he made regarding how the girl came off saying: "What they said is not true. I never said that the unretracted stand caused her to come off".

No mention was made in yesterday's Daily News report about Kittichai retracting earlier comments he made that the policeman concerned had not pulled the student's hair.

After announcing to the relatives that a committee had been convened to look into the matter the relatives went home.

The story has caused much comment from the online Thai public many of whom believe the police are circling the wagons to protect their own.

In a country where you have to bribe your way into the police force,

cheat on exams, pay millions for coveted rank and posting, no wonder

that such unbecoming a gentleman and the guardian and servant

of the public ( allegedly ) behave like this....

running across a busy street and trying to grab at a moving vehicle is not an approved method in any police manual  that I have read, let alone grabbing the hair of a child causing her to crash and hit her head on a pole - that could easily have resulted in a fatal injury

This is not a Police Force, just a bunch of uniformed mafia thugs bent on extorting money in any way possible.

They are a law unto themselves and are given every opportunity to try to compensate for their monumental inferiority complexes with virtually no oversight nor cul[ability.

Given that they, ultimately, report to the silly little general, it's no great surprise.

This is one of many clear examples of the disgusting operations of the RTP. They are incompetent and danger to the public in a whole. They serve nobody but themselves. The video clearly shows a rat chasing some young children arms out like a animal on the charge. Sue them there a disgusting group and a new PM must eliminate these pretenders.  This PM has no stones.            .

You would think that the leader, with supreme power, no opposition allowed and article 44 would be able to reform the police AND sort out the carnage on the roads. But you would be wrong.

Correct but he thinks Thais are dumb. Well I can't say but by the looks of things it maybe a proven fact.

He is to busy raping big money projects. Could be the worst PM ever.

the girls were breaking the law, 3 on a bike and no helmets then they tried to get away from the cop when he approached them. The one driving needs to be done for too many on the bike and all 3 for not wearing helmets and the rider also needs to be done for not stopping, if she had of obeyed the law irt would not have happened, the riders fault no the cops

In that case get the license number and investigate.  Don't try to kill the girls though!

Doesn't the bike refuse to start the engine when the kickstand is down? How could she have driven if the stand was down? Can't spot the kickstand in the video either.

ents of Youtube clips of Thai policeman caught on dashcams kicking motorcyclists off their bikes. Quite believable it happened as the girls say.

Good to hear ...  if they stop when requested then no problem.

Difficult to grab hair if under a helmet.

Considering that he led the rush to charge a former PM with having failed to supervise a rice-purchasing policy properly (and consequent alleged corruption) one would have to think that what's good for the goose is also quite appropriate for the gander somei time in the future.
