Ever been surprised by the amount trash left over from a quick trip to 7-Eleven for snacks? Or wondered why that bottle of milk needed to be double-bagged with three straws?

Are you saddened by the piles of trash ruining Thailand’s idyllic beaches? Madeleine Recknagel has felt all of these things, and in 2015 she began to adopt a zero-waste lifestyle in Bangkok.

German expat Recknagel aims to live in a way that does not create trash and that’s not easy. The average Thai produces 1.1 kilograms of garbage each day.

Good on her. As I discovered, signage doesn't work.

This photo I took recently in Naka Market Phuket says 'Do not Litten'.

But still, everybody litten !

Bangkok *IS* garbage. Take away the garbage, the smells and the pollution, and there'll be almost nothing left of the heart and soul of Bangkok. Leave our garbage alone! It adds grittiness to what would otherwise be a pretty boring city.
