BANGKOK: -- Thai Immigration are celebrating two more high profile successes after more cases were resolved.

Following Monday's arrest of an Indian man implicated in the attempted assassination of a political and love rival in his  homeland came news of two more cases.

Both concerned foreigners wanted abroad who were hiding out in Pattaya, reports Thairath.

The first was a Hungarian husband and wife - Lajos Deaki and Lajosne Deaki wanted on an Interpol "Red Notice". They had fled their homeland where they had been sentenced to 8 years each in a fraud case.

They had entered Thailand in July 2009 and been extending their tourist visas ever since. The latest of eight extensions was due for renewal in August.

They were arrested at a house in Banglamung.

The second case was a high profile Chinese fraudster. Zhang Qingduan, 38, entered Thailand last September on a "privilege 'visa' " of one year duration. He was arrested in North Pattaya.

He is wanted by the Chinese authorities in connection with a massive investment fraud worth 500 million baht that defrauded 30,000 victims in his homeland.

Immigration also said that they had arrested many illegal nationals from Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon in the last week.

Chadreshkumar Rameshbhai Patel

BANGKOK: -- THAILAND’S role as a haven for transnational criminals has been reconfirmed with the separate arrests in Bangkok of criminals on the run from India, Hungary and China.

Pol Lt General Nutthorn Prawsunthorn, commissioner of Immigration Police, said yesterday that Indian authorities and Interpol had alerted his bureau about Chadreshkumar Rameshbhai Patel, 40, the alleged leader of a gang that hired assassins to kill Pragnesh Patel, a municipal councillor from Gujarat state in India.

Four suspected gang members who were caught five days after the hit on January 13 confessed to Patel engaging them to carry out the attack, which the councillor survived despite being hit in the neck by a bullet.

Surely immigration should be reprimanded, not recognised. They pat themselves on the back, all the while continually extending their tourist visas -- and how is that even possible and why not just overstay if you're wanted?

When I have a genuine multi-entry O, I get immigration suspiciously rifling through my passport. Not a blot on my resume... shakes head.

This whole thing is just weird all round. I think I'll go and lie down.

TVN should consider a special forum for Government bragging and big noting press releases. That way we could go direct to one location for our daily dose of humour and bewilderment.

Looks like the Chinese crim was on a Privileged Entry Visa a.k.a. Thai Elite.

They did not want to blemish the brand.  It is like the Cadillac of visas, or in the Chinese guys case an Audi .

Is he now going to be escorted out by a tight-skirted lady through fast-track immigration with buggy right up to the gate?

Extending their tourist visa eight time? Some criminals are lucky!

I thought that was a bit rich, on an Interpol Red notice,   maybe they were using false PP, anyway a good end result

Ahhh, Pattaya, the bastion of piousness and morality,  I think when Trump said

to " drain the swamp " he really meant Pattaya, a truly cesspool of undesirable

and shady, unsavory people.....

"A sunny place for shady people" ( Somerset Maugham on Miami , but it could apply to any number of places in Thailand....Pattaya the standout)

They need any good press they can get to keep the daily mess they create at the airport out of the spotlight.

Would depend on when the Interpol red was issued. If it was in 2009/10, then yes, questions should be asked.

If it was only issued last week then they should get credit where credit is due..........................;)

These guys are always seen in military uniforms as if they are at war.

Do the immigration enforcement services also wear uniforms back in your home country?
