Trump's spokesman promises reporters 'never to lie'

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump's press secretary promised reporters on Monday that he would never lie after a weekend briefing in which he made statements about the crowd size for Trump's inauguration that were debunked.

 

In comments to reporters on Saturday that became known as the "alternative facts" briefing, White House spokesman Sean Spicer declared that Trump's crowd was "the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration - period."

 

Photographs showed the crowds at Trump's swearing-in on Friday were smaller than Barack Obama's first presidential inauguration in 2009.

 

Spicer's statement drew further criticism after Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway said on Sunday the White House had wanted to "put alternative facts out there" to counter what she said was a biased media.

 

At his first formal White House briefing on Monday, Spicer was asked by a reporter if he intended to always tell the truth from the lectern.

 

"Our intention is never to lie to you," he replied.

 

Spicer defended his right to give the administration's point of view.

 

He said he had been including television and online viewers in his remarks on Saturday about the size of the inauguration crowd. He told reporters that Trump and his advisers had been frustrated by "demoralizing" coverage that he called a "constant attempt to undermine his credibility."

 

"I want to have a healthy relationship with the press," Spicer said.

 

Spicer answered questions on a wide range of policy issues, with a focus on trade policy. He did not take questions from reporters on Saturday.

 

"That moves it away from the acrimonious session on Saturday," said Martha Kumar, a political scientist and emeritus professor at Towson University in Maryland who studies the relationship between the White House and its press corps.

 

Spicer took questions from 43 reporters - more than twice the average, Kumar said in an interview.

 

He also said he would start taking questions from four "Skype seats" later this week to allow news organisations outside of Washington to participate.

Which is unequivocally false, both in terms of ratio as well as absolute numbers.

 

 

 

 

If anyone buys this latest lie not to lie, they are like the abused wife who buys her husband's promise never to hit her again.

 

The false statement about federal employees was a prelude to institute hiring and pay freezes so as to starve federal agencies of the res courses they need to of regulating industries and institutions to keep those institutions honest and prevent abuses. It also means that agencies that agree to do Trump's bidding can have the freezes lifted. It's a power play.

Hey the money has to be raises somewhere for the tax reductions of the rich and buying another God knows how many naval ships as he promised and the army is more than likely standing there with their hand out as well. As far as I can understand ... " Alternative fact" is the PC expression for "lie", so Sean Spicer is honestly telling the thruth: Trump Administration does'nt intend to lie, it simply lives another reality.

Also I can figure out how risky it is for any member of this Administration to displease the Head of the Oval Office with facts that are not in line with the official narrative.

Former USSR's people used to live in a double reality too.

The link between reality and truth is that what is said about reality is true or false depending on what exists or does not exist. In other words, reality is a criterion of truth. The thought or proposition in which things and their relations are represented as they are in reality will be held to be true. Hence the: "veritas est adequatio intellectus et rei", truth is the appropriateness of thought and things. This is called the theory of truth-correspondence.

Why does Donald have to semantically redefine  what is commonly know as to be a "lie"?

 

Ans why are we talking about this? It is a post truth world. 

 

Surely he has better things to do day two? Or doesn't he. Absolute deflection is a political game. Just four years of semantic blathering. Even having to answer this post makes me think Trump has nothing to offer his supporters defending him.

Oh, man don't get me started on that. This privatization may have started out with good intentions but has become a decades old long-scam that's screwing workers and transferring even more money from taxpayers to the already rich who run these government contracting companies and who are a big part of this insidious revolving door between government and private corporations. The head of black water is now a Trump advisor, his sister is slated to become education secretary. Former WH chief of staff heads Halliburton, then leave Halliburton to become Vp. Etc, etc.

 

I believe Spicer means actual fed employees because they want to accelerate this privatization.
