Fifth prostitute reported missing

Paula Clennell; BBC.

'Quiet' Ipswich in state of shock

Police investigating the deaths of three prostitutes have said they are concerned for two other missing women.

The naked bodies of Gemma Adams, Tania Nicol and a third woman have been found near Ipswich in the past eight days.

Suffolk Police are searching for a fourth prostitute Paula Clennell, 24, and a fifth woman, Annette Nicholls, also a prostitute.

Assistant Chief Constable Jacqui Cheer urged women, particularly in the party season, not to go out at night alone.

Ms Nicholls was reported missing by her family and was last seen on either 3 or 4 December.

Police said Paula Clennell had spoken to a friend but they are still "concerned" about her welfare.

Annette Nicholls, 29, was reported missing by her family

Earlier, in a direct appeal to prostitutes, ACC Cheer said: "Please stay off the streets, if you are out alone at night you are putting yourself in danger.

"We are coming up to the party season and up to Christmas.

"There will be groups of women going out and I would say you have really got to look after each other, plan how you are going to get there and come home together.

"Whatever happens on your night out, do not leave your friends alone and make sure you get home safely."

Detectives have said there was nothing to link the inquiry with the discovery of a woman's body in a river in Lincolnshire on Saturday.

Ms Adams, 25, and Ms Nicol, 19, worked together and went missing from the red light area of Ipswich.

Ms Adams vanished on 15 November and her body was found in a stream at the village of Hintlesham, Suffolk, on 2 December.

All women everywhere should be vigilant, at all times, when they are out at night

Merson, Staffs

Ms Nicol disappeared on 30 October and her body was discovered on Friday in the same stream at Copdock, near Ipswich.

A prostitute interviewed on BBC News 24, who gave her name as Kelly, said she knew Tania Nicol.

"She was very into martial arts, that I do remember. She was a very nice girl. She seemed very healthy and looked after herself," she said.

Det Ch Supt Stewart Gull said: "While we can't formally link the discovery of the body at Nacton with the two murders, the facts speak for themselves.

"I do not know who we are looking for. He may be local, he may be from away. We could draw a number of conclusions as to where the bodies have been deposited and found. Anything is possible."

Det Ch Supt Gull said Ms Clennell, who was last seen on Saturday, had been reported missing by a friend.

"We know that Ms Clennell uses a number of addresses in Ipswich and we are currently checking these to establish her whereabouts.

"We would urge Paula or anyone who knows of her whereabouts to call us immediately so that we can be reassured that she is safe and well."

It's a topic folk would talk about in the PUB, yeah?

Drus, this has happened before, I think in England, and in Holland too. If I recall correctly, in the run up to Xmas too.

Very spooky and whoever is responsible should have his ballscut off and fed tohim, imho.

It does my head in sometimes this, "oh its not Thai related" BS. Its big news, a lot of people connected to the area use this forum, if not directly associated it still affects....!

Despite the number of replies, quite a few have viewed, it is news people are interested, fact.

I'd go along with Brit's suggestion, if I didn't think it was a bit late. :o

from the bbc news website:

Two more bodies have been found by police investigating the murders of three prostitutes.

A woodland area around the village of Levington, near Ipswich, in Suffolk has been sealed off by officers.

Police said it is likely the two bodies are those of two missing women - Paula Clennell and Annette Nicholls.

The area is close to where the body of Anneli Alderton was found on Sunday. The bodies of Gemma Adams, and Tania Nicol, were also found near Ipswich.

Paula Clennell

Paula Clennell has not been seen since Saturday

Ms Clennell, 24, and 29-year-old Ms Nicholls, have not been heard from since Sunday.

Suffolk police officers were called to Levington shortly after 1500 GMT on Tuesday.

The site is off the main Felixstowe to Ipswich road, close to a railway line, in a rural area close Ipswich.

Det Ch Supt Stewart Gull said: "We can only fear the worst.

"The natural assumption is that these are the two missing women."

The body of Anneli Alderton, 24, was found in woodland at Nacton on 10 December. She had been strangled.

Ms Adams' body was found on 2 December at Thorpes Hill, Hintlesham, near Ipswich.

Police divers recovered the body of Ms Nicol, 19, six days later from the same stretch of water at Copdock Mill.

Two more bodies found

12 December 2006 | 17:22

Two more bodies have been found, Suffolk police have confirmed.

Det Chief Supt Steward Gull said a member of the public walking near the old Felixstowe road at Levington called police at 3pm today after finding a corpse.

The body was found just 20ft from the road.

A police helicopter scouring the area then found a second body at the site.

Police have now thrown a wide cordon around the area, which takes in the Ipswich to Felixstowe railway line.

Officers have not yet disclosed the identity of the latest bodies, but said they could only assume the two bodies were that of missing prostitutes Paula Clennell, 24, and Annette Nicholls, 29.

The finds were just a few miles from where the body of murdered prostitute Anneli Alderton was found. Her body was discovered at Nacton on Sunday.

At a press conference this evening Chief Constable Alastair McWhirter said the police were disclosing all information possible.

Chief Superintendent Stewart Gull, the man leading the hunt to catch the person or persons responsible for the killing spree that had already seen three women murdered before today, said: “I can confirm this afternoon two bodies have been found.

“At 3.05pm police received a call from a member of the public walking along the old Felixstowe road near the Levington turn-off.

“He saw what appeared to be the body of the naked female about 20 feet off the road.

“About forty minutes later, at 3.48pm, a crew member of the helicopter spotted what appeared to be a second body a few hundred yards away from the first body.

“Because of the discovery of a further two bodies close to where Anneli Alderton was found, we can only fear the worst. The natural assumption is that these are the two missing women, Paula Clennell and Annette Nicholls.”

Although Ch Supt Gull said he feared the worst, he stressed no identification had been made of what could be the missing Ipswich women's bodies.

The corpses were discovered near a derelict strip of the old Ipswich to Felixstowe A45 road which stretches no more than 100 yards and is a popular lay-up for lorry drivers overnight.

Shocking and saddening.

I hope they find who's behind the killings quickly before more harm is done.

Yeah me too.

Just watched the news and they're not even sure if its one guy or not. I would've thought they'd keep that to themselves....! :o

I agree with you redrus, but I'm also a bit worried that this nutter might want us to label him the new 'ripper too! It might motivate him or make him think he IS actually the new ripper... :o

Posted
Not exactly a ripper....method of death is different, well if it holds true its strangulation again.

You just reminded me, the guy on the news said that it wasn't strangulation or asphyxiation. I'm not sure how this happened and I agree the tag "Ripper", (I)/we shouldn't (have) use(d).

Poison has been mentioned hasn't it?

edit: well I say that but can't find the link to that info now. It stuck in my head because it's a bit of an unusual method to be using. :o

I read a psychological profile on the guardian

marking him out as "clearly organised and clever."

Still the police force has come along way since the times of Sutcliffe, let's hope they get this bastard quickly.

Ok, I couldn't find any ref to poison again. I had the impression that it obviously wasn't the cause of death but used on some of the victims, maybe to pacify them? Maybe it was just a bit of shoddy journalism. :o

Ipswich isn't a massive place, and plenty of cameras in the UK, it can't be long before they trace this guys movements can it.

Have you seen their photos though?

Have you posted this brainless comment to invoke a reaction? its worked

So because they haven't given a more positive contribution (debateable) to society than you, its ok for their pathetic lives to be snuffed out is it?

Do us all a favour and stay loitering around long gun, slobbering down your fat jowls you misogynic loser :o

From Daily Mail 13-12-06

Police refuse to rule out possibility of poisoning

Police said they have not ruled out poisoning as a cause of death.

Anneli Alderton, 24, was strangled, but postmortem examinations on Tania Nicol, 19, and Gemma Adams, 25, have proved inconclusive.

Autopsies on the two bodies found - thought to be missing prostitutes Paula Clennell, 24, and Annette Nicholls, 29, are likely to be carried out today.

Asked if poisoning was a possible cause of death of one or more of the women, Detective Chief Superintendent Stewart Gull said: "That is possible. We are doing toxicology tests along with a number of other clinical and scientific analyses following the post-mortems."

Tests on blood and other samples taken from the women will establish whether poison, drugs or alcohol were present in their bodies.

None are thought to have had any obvious physical injuries when they were found.

:o very sad. The victims were so young. What a tragic waste of lives and what a tragic waste of oxygen Barney is.

I think the reason they are calling him a ripper is the number of victims so far.

Massive response in murders probe;

2,199 calls made in five hours

Officers investigating the murder of three prostitutes and the discovery of two more bodies say they have had a massive response from the public.

Suffolk Police said it was likely the bodies found near Ipswich on Tuesday were those of two prostitutes.

Paula Clennell, 24, and Annette Nicholls, 29, have been missing for several days.

A reward of £250,000 has been offered by a national newspaper to catch the killer of the Ipswich prostitutes.

Police have linked the murders of Gemma Adams, 25, Tania Nicol, 19, and Anneli Alderton, 24, whose bodies were found in nearby villages within 10 days.

Map to where the bodies were found.

Det Ch Supt Stewart Gull said all five deaths bore "striking similarities" in that the women had been found naked and in a rural environment.

It is important that if anyone has concerns for the safety of a prostitute in Ipswich that they contact us immediately

Det Ch Supt Stewart Gull

A number of people are helping police with their inquiries, but no-one has been arrested.

Officers are trawling through 2,199 calls made in five hours on Tuesday and will be working "24-7" on the investigation.

Mr Gull said specialists, including blood and soil experts, were at the woodland in Levington where the two bodies were found.

Home Office pathologist Dr Nat Carey, who carried out post-mortems examinations on the three murdered prostitutes, will examine the bodies.

But Mr Gull said it was unlikely police would confirm on Wednesday the identities of the bodies.

"We have not found what appear to be murder scenes," he said. "We are dealing with sites where the bodies have been dumped and left."

A picture of the prostitutes working in the area and their clients was gradually being built up, the officer said.

He added: "It is important that if anyone has concerns for the safety of a prostitute in Ipswich that they contact us immediately."

Despite appeals for the women to keep off the streets, there are some continuing to work through desperation for money to buy drugs and Christmas presents.

Home Secretary John Reid and Downing Street have contacted Suffolk's Chief Constable Alastair McWhirter to make sure he has enough resources to deal with the current murder inquiry.

Paula Clennell has not been seen since Saturday

The prime minister's spokesman said officials were assured Mr McWhirter was "happy" with the level of resources he had.

At Commons question time, the prime minister said there was "entirely understandable fear" in the community in Ipswich and said all MPs would want to send their sympathy to the people of Suffolk and the relatives of the victims.

The sites where the two bodies were found on Tuesday is off the main A14 trunk road between Ipswich and Felixstowe docks close to a railway line, the Orwell estuary and a marina.

It is near to where the body of Miss Alderton who had moved to the area from Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, was found on Sunday in Nacton.

The body of Miss Adams was found on 2 December in woodland at Hintlesham, on the outskirts of Ipswich. She had last been seen on 15 November.

On 8 December the body of Miss Nicol was found in nearby Copdock. She was the first to go missing and had last been seen on 30 October.

Since the victims are similar in backgrounds much easier than say complete randoms. Let's hope the killer doesnt change his profile, now this would be very hard for the police to catch.

Hmmm perhaps another topic, but has Thailand had any serial killers? :o

What about that dude who's on display in Siriraj hospital, the cannibal guy, he is classed a serial killer? :D

It seems to be mostly a western phenomenon and almost always its white males that are serial killers.

Libya, thanks for the article you provided it was the same one I read I think.

So you posess some skill where you can tell all about someone and their life just by looking at the photo right?

I think not, maybe you should look at the facts a little more closely next time you open your mouth. Maybe think about the families of the people involved and the deeper down reasons for them doing what they did.

I personally read a very moving article about one of the girls, and she was a young beautiful girl who just went down the wrong route - it could and has happened to the best of us.
