PATTAYA: -- Police in Pattaya have appealed for help from the public in the case of the murder of Briton Tony Kenway.

Mr Kenway, 39, was shot as he sat in his red Porsche outside a sports club in Bang Lamung.

None Preu police spokesman Jirawut Tanthasri has appealed for anyone with information or pictures to come forward. Police are particularly interested in anyone who saw the assailants or their getaway. They would also like to talk to anyone who may know about Mr Kenway's work history or associates, reports Thairath.

He has been described as a web designer but there are persistent rumors that he may have been involved with illegal activities, possibly boiler rooms.

Police said Wednesday that Mr Kenway, who has been in Thailand about seven years, was arrested at the end of 2015 on a charge of working without a permit and hiring illegal workers. This case has yet to be resolved and was due for a next hearing on February 23rd of this year.

Meanwhile Thai Rath reporters said that they had gone to the Salona housing estate in Pong sub-district where the deceased lived with his wife Somporn Kenway, 32. He had been living with her about four years.

At their house valued at 10 million baht and one of four properties in Thailand owned by Mr Kenway, they saw a red Mercedes Benz. All was quiet at the house.

Police are still being tight-lipped about what they know in the case and are concentrating their efforts on examining CCTV trying to find out where the assailants came from and went to after the attack.

Suspected killers of a British web designer in Pattaya escape to Cambodia

2501002.jpg

PATTAYA: -- A Briton and a South African who were suspected to be involved in the killing of a British web designer in Pattaya on Tuesday January 24 have escaped into Cambodia on the same day, police said on Wednesday.

The two suspects were identified as Miles Dicken Turner, a 27-year old British national and 23-year old South African named Abel Caldeira Bonito.

The victim, Tony Kenway, was shot dead behind the steering wheel of his Porsche in Pattaya with a single bullet on his head by a lone gunman who escaped in a waiting motorcycle after the incident.

Pattaya police said they found an abandoned motorcycle with license plate number 1 kor lor 7994 in Soi Pattaya Park. Police traced the motorbike to a rental service whose proprietor said he rented the vehicle to Turner.

Police later traced the suspect to his apartment room and found out that he had already checked out. All immigration checkpoints were alerted to look out for Turner, but the alert came too late as the suspect had already crossed the border into Cambodia through Klongyai border crossing in Trat province.

Tony Kenway

Senior police officer tied to victim who had been accused of illegal activities

PATTAYA: -- A HIRED hitman with alleged links to organised crime is believed to be the killer of a British businessman who was shot dead in his car in Chon Buri’s Bang Lamung district on Tuesday.

The killer is described as being a bearded, chubby, fair-skinned man who could be of Indian origin.

Witnesses said the hitman waited at a roadside pavilion near the scene of the crime for one to two days before the shooting, a source in the police investigation team said yesterday.

Tony Kenway, 39, a father of four, was shot dead in broad daylight on Tuesday as he was getting into his Porsche Cayenne in the parking lot of the Sanit Sports Club in Chon Buri’s Tambon Pong.

Some things that have been reported:

- the victim lived in Marbella, Spain, before coming to Thailand 7 years ago

- the "brit" Miles Dicken Turner lives in Spain, I found he has a construction company in Barcelona named "Renewable Media" where he is the sole shareholder

- the "south african" has been reported to also be Portuguese (neighboring Spain)

- the victim has been reported to have a son who lives in Spain

- Turner has been reported to have entered Thailand for the first time on November 25 at the Suvernabhumi Airport and left Thailand on November 26. He re-entered Thailand on January 19 through an immigration checkpoint in Trat and left Thailand again via the same Trat checkpoint on January 24

- Bonito has been reported to have entered Thailand for the first time on January 19 through the Trat border checkpoint and left the kingdom via the Trat checkpoint on January 24

- the victims company, "arcanus solutions" features contact numbers in Thailand and Spain, the Spanish number is a Marbella number

- the victim's associate in arcanus solutions, Carlos Del Puerto, also comes from Marbella, Spain.

the more I think about it, the more I believe this murder has nothing to do with Thailand

If you mean the close up of Abel Bonito Caldeira, then no, the close up looks exactly as he looks on some of his own Facebook photos.

Ive just seen them on the bike on stickboys website... these people could not have been more useless if they tried presuming not getting caught was their intention.

The South African's mother and sister's FaceBook has them living in Phnom Penh presumably with his father. He is friends with another lady, maybe another sister, with the same surnames living in Sihanoukville. I read elsewhere that Kenway wanted to open a business in Phnom Penh.

A major Thai news site is reporting that the victim allegedly ran an illegal online football gambling site.

I personally doubt he was killed over that though. With the Spain/Costa Del Crime links he and the alleged perpetrator have I still think it is more likely to be related to a boiler room conflict. Maybe he had branched out on his own? Maybe he had poached staff or stolen data? People have been killed for that before in Thailand. Just a couple of years ago two Swedes who are now imprisoned for life in Bangkok murdered a former boiler room associate in Phuket over tipping the police off to them and stealing a "customer" database.

Normally people don't kill each other in the online gambling industry. But boiler room industry for sure.

Nothing to do with Thailand? So where was he murdered then?

These persons of interest are 27 and 23 years old.  The deceased has been living in Thailand for seven years.  If these guys carried the murder, it would likely have something to do with activities in Thailand given their ages.  That, or they might have been acting somebody else's behalf.

If they know they fled to Cambodia, why not arrest at the border. I can see a dialog:

"Do you have any crimes to flee from?" (Border guard)

"Well, yeah, okay... we killed a Brit in contract killing"

"This is very serious, but we do want bad guys out. I'll let you pass for 20,000 baht and a stern warning"

"Here's 10,000 and you can keep the gun"

"Done. And no more shooting in Thailand. I hear plenty available in your new home"

He could have still had interests in Spain. Maybe the young Brit living in Spain was a disgruntled employee.

I have always wondered at the idiocy of Thai hitmen who hire their getaway bikes in their own names.

Seems the Brits do it too.

And no helmets to disguise their faces.

Looks like you're ripe for opening your very own Hitman School, old croc :-))

Perhaps they crossed the border before the Thai police had identified them as suspects?
