I have a condo with a nice balcony, unfortunately come 1600 / 1700 it becomes very hot with the sun going down.

 

Does anyone have any experience with blind / shade installation and can recommend someone to come round have a look to see what the options are available.

Just to protect a balcony drinks fridge i used a large rattan blind suspended from ceiling on balcony and when down attached securely to floor retainers (or balcony railings).  Worked well and only had to repalce it once in 7 years after THAT mini tornado

My good deed for the day was digging out their old business card. As I recall, they're serious & competent but not especially cheap.

 

There are also some shops on Thepprasit that've been mentioned here before.

 

 

For the expensive solution there used to be a stall that sells custom-made sun shades and blinds in the area outside Home Works. They can make a motorised version or a hand-cranked one that will fit your balcony. There's been some changes in that area though and I'm not certain they're still located there. Worth a look anyway.

 

The cheap solution is the bamboo sun screens that they sell in several shops in soi post office up in Naklua. They only have a few widths available but they're only around 2000 Baht a time. One of the shops will deliver, the others seems to expect you to ride away with it on your motorbike. It's easy enough to install it yourself or get one of the condo maintenance guys to do it for you. They're nice when installed as you can still see through them, but they're very effective at blocking the sun. I've got five of them around my house. .

Where did you buy the rattan blind. Only place I think I've seen them is in Naklua at a shop that sells cane furniture.

2000 baht for a bamboo blind? Those things sell for around 500 baht in Australia and that's for the big sizes.

We have four two metres wood blinds for that purpose, useful during the day to keep the sun off the house - about 2k baht each.

Tried there before. The only ones they had weren't very wide, probably a metre at most. Not wide enough for my purposes.

No. If you turn into the road that runs alongside Big C Extra, the shop is about 1klm further down on the right hand side.

No, once again, it's not in Big C. If you were coming up Pattaya Klang from the beach, you'd turn left at the traffic lights next to Big C, proceed about 1 klm (guessing) and it's a big shop on the right hand side. You can't miss it, they have lots of garden pots (at least they used to) outside.

I bought three sets of bamboo blinds from Index about 8 years ago for the front patio; maybe around 800 baht each? Just spent 80 baht on new strings for the lot and although they look weathered, they still work great.

I'm looking also for this type.  There is a kiosk just outside Home Works on Sukumvit.  50k for the motorized version.

Have those all around and they are great. They keep natural view and keep sun out. Not great for rain though. Good quality material and for some reason they don't seem to get dirty.

That shop outside Home Works is Home & Awning Pattaya, good people, clean work, good service, fair prices.

Looking more for something to cover the balcony railings 59 long x 31 high pretty small.  Setting up a computer work space out there.  I'm really more interested in preventing anything from falling off from the 21 st floor and still keep airflow.

 

I've scene a couple here at Lumpini complex.  Looks like shade cloth.  One is plain green the other has a soccer pattern on it. Just covers the steel railing.  Wondering if its set up with grommets and tied on with zip ties or small nylon rope.  Can tell for sure?

If that shop sells rattan blinds 1 meter wide, I can trim it to fit inside a 36" wide louvered door  x 80" long for 2000 baht, correct? I sure wish someone knew the name of that shop, so directions wouldn't confuse me.

See #17. Do you know where Naklua Post Office is? There's also a couple of shops in that road that sell cane and bamboo furniture that also sell blinds.

Home Pro or such like probably have people that do that sort of work, or can give you a company's address.
