Hi

I am experiencing a problem obtaining a medication I have been on for 30 years whilst I am in Thailand. I arrived here with what I thought would be a sufficient supply from Australia, however, I still have just over a month before I fly back and I only have about 10 days supply left. I have visited numerous pharmacies, several hospitals and even contacted the Australian embassy all to no avail.

The medication in question is called Mysoline, part of the Primidone group. I understand that group of drug is not available here. There is the option of ordering it online, however , it comes from India and I am informed it is not a reliable product. My pharmacist in Australia could send me some, however, there is a problem with supply over there and they do not expect to have it in stock until the end of the month. Then there is a question mark over whether the product is allowed here in Thailand and the last thing I want is to contravene any laws whilst here.

From my visits to pharmacies and hospital pharmacies I have been unable to discover what, if anything, I am able to purchase as an alternative.

I use this drug because it has effectively controlled a problem I had with idiopathic epilepsy as a teenager. Ideally I need 200 Mysoline 250 mg tablets, or an alternative.

If anyone has any helpful suggestions would be glad to here from you

Cheers Phil

Primidone is permitted in Thailand, it is on their pharmaceutical list. There just isn't a registered brand of it available.

So bringing it in with you is no issue.

To have pharmaecuticals  mailed to you is technically not allowed unless one has an FDA license (which you cannot get). In practice, customs will usually let in small quantities if sent by regular air mail. Under no circumstances use a courier.  And of course be sure the bottles are clearly labelled.
