Democrats propose ‘sustainable democracy’ for reconciliation

THE DEMOCRAT Party yesterday proposed “sustainable democracy” at its meeting with the reconciliation preparation committee as a common goal that everyone should pursue towards true reconciliation.

 

The party also stressed that democracy itself was not a problem, but implementation was.

 

The Democrats were the first large political party to participate in the discussion at the Defence Ministry yesterday. It was led by Abhisit Vejjajiva, the party’s leader and former prime minister.

 Do I get it right? Just like self-sufficicency means sparing on resources,  sustainable democracy means sparing on democracy?

He means democracy where the Democrats have a chance of winning an election. Now if they could ignore all those uneducated, dirty unwashed electors outside of  Bangkok .........

So far they have said the same things that have been said for the last 3 years. Basically a lot of talk about nothing. 

Hours and hours of paid meetings. 

Paid committees , subcommittees and subsubcommittees, with no clear objectives such as. ..

1. We will....

2. We will. ...

3. We will. ...

4. Finally we all agree to. ....

Sign the paper. 

So far these talks have achieved nothing but an expensive tax payers chat and I expect it to continue that way.

Yes, sustainable democracy is quite possible, indeed probable, in Thailand: it is where the people are forced - by tricks, lies, stitch-ups or threat of military might - to 'vote' for those who are in power now (and will later control everything from behind the scenes). Very sustainable indeed!

and the wording there of. The devil is hidden in the details. Time and time again the new government will run into roadblocks/walls built into the new "constitution" As Reagan said "bring that wall down" That sadly will take decades and a changing mindset.
