rooster59
Emotions run high as woman wails: "Why are you doing this to the Buddhist religion?" Image: Daily News Emotions ran high at Gate 7 of controversial Wat Dhammakaya yesterday as food arrived for the monks and people inside the blockaded temple. Four truckloads of dry and cooked food had arrived from the nearby Klong Luang market but DSI, police and soldiers would not let it through. After an initial search the security forces continued to clamber over the pick-ups causing one elderly woman to shout: "Why are you doing this to the Buddhist religion?" She was led away by a friend to a car as the search of the heavily laden vehicles continued. optad
Buddhism is not a religion, more a way of thinking or philosophy. Permissive for almost anything. But, up to you...
ezzra
When a religion is being hijacked and use as a tool to disobey law and order, than this religion in no mere than a bunch of anarchist and followers of a cult figure who blindly be willing to shed blood of others in the name of a religion.... ( see Muslims for example )

canuckamuck
Buddhists should be thrilled that they are clamping down on this organization. It symbolizes pride, greed, vanity, and attachment.

All he has to do to stop the whole siege is present himself to the authorities Is that so hard to do or is he so used to being above the law? This is the only opposition the military junta cannot defeat with weapons of war. If the monks can get a million people on the streets it will spell the end of Phrayut. I don't think they are there yet but it is coming. Every Thai person I have spoken to supports the monks and despises the army.
bannork
True Buddhism says there is no god. Rather it teaches you how we construct the world- ego , a sense of a continuous self, in order to make sense and survive in the world. A true Buddhist is humble, aware of the impermanence of everything in this world which in itslelf can enable one to live fully. Wat Thammakai is a crude distortion of the teachings, encouraging donors to give more in the promise of a better life. The donors may like this idea, much easier to hand over 20,000 baht for example than have to actually improve one's self in everyday life. Dhammachayo should have been disrobed a long, long time ago. Misterwhisper
These stupid people are way too brainwashed to realize that this is not about clamping down on Buddhism per se but about apprehending and arresting a high-ranking monk who is accused of having laundered billions of baht and allegedly also has been involved in a slew of other criminal offenses. But that is obviously impossible to explain to a bunch of idiots with the combined IQ of a pea who honestly believe that their holy man can actually make himself invisible and even walk on water. The temple siege would have been entirely unnecessary if the coward of an ex-abbot had given himself up and fight the accusations in a court of law instead of playing cat and mouse. The temple, its monks and followers have defied every single court order, obstructed the authorities in carrying out several arrest and search warrants, repeatedly put up physical resistance, barricaded themselves in, and practically established a state within the state - They demand to be treated fairly while at the same committing each and every foul play imaginable? And now they have the galls to pull the "why are you doing this to Buddhism" card? It's pathetic and it's disgusting. WhizBang
So did the police/military allow food into the temple? The last photo would seem to imply that the food was allowed in. If so, that was a major mistake on the part of the police/military. I thought they were going on a hunger strike, so they do not need the food anyway. darksidedog
It's very sad really, as Buddhism at the heart of it, is about being morally decent and caring for all life. As with many religions/ways of life, there become corrupt version and spin offs. One only has to look at Islam and Christianity to see how various people have different views and form new churches, sects, or divisions. Monks here are close to untouchable, as is seen by the PM's reluctance to storm the Temple, which he would undoubtedly have done if not for that fact. While I applaud the support from many Thais for the temple in principal, the alleged activities of this temples head monks, suggest that enthusiasm and support can sometimes be blinded. 01322521959
All religions were designed to control the population IMO. Most came along before people were illiterate. Then something called government and the law came along which has continued to keep people controlled.Sent from my i-mobile_i-STYLE_219 using Thaivisa Connect mobile app

slapout
The people following the doctrine of this monk /temple, make those groups who play with rattle snakes, etc in their '' house of worship'' appear more intelligent than this band / sect of buddhist. At least some people can still see a dangerous snake for what it is. Most have sense enough to give the snake a wide berth or take more drastic measures, then have dinner, including meat.
