Flexible sigmoidoscopy exam

Featured Replies

Has anyone had this type of examination  done here in Thailand?    If so what was the cost and  what hospital?

why only a sigmoidoscopy, a colonoscopy looks at a lot more.

I have had a few colonoscopies over recent months often the comment was made that the preparation was not good, although I always took all the required wash through fluids

Now when having one I pass on this comment and they now generally flush my system through early evening then repeat the following morning for colonoscopy in the afternoon

If the preparation is poor an inferior result may be obtained, and it can even have to be redone and then you pay twice

I hate drinking the fluid but essential to have good preparation

Last full colonoscopy ( ten days ago) with biopsies at Chula Bangkok 9000 baht, had two shot sedation very painless very free from stress out patient procedure

Colonoscopies these days cost anywhere from a little under 10K at a government hospital to around 30K at the "top end" private hospitals.

I would expect cost for sigmoidoscopy to be about the same.  In most cases colonoscopy would be preferred. You have to go through the same bowel prep either way (strong laxatives) and that is the only unpleasant part.

There have been innumerable threads about this here, suggest you do a search. (Often works better to do it in google rather than the forum search function, type in "colonoscopy + site:thaivisa.com")

Need to consider why it is being done - if it is routine screening that is one thing and any reputable GI doctor will do, but if it is related to a specific disease or you have serious symptoms then it should be done by the doctor who will then treat you for the condition, and that person should be chosen with some care and research.
