CDC head gives update on general election schedule

BANGKOK, 8 March 2017 (NNT) – The chairman of the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) has maintained that a firm date for the next general election cannot yet be set while letting on organic laws to do with the Election Commission are soon to be forwarded to the National Legislative Assembly.

CDC Chairman Meechai Ruchuphan has responded to speculation that the general election take place in the middle of 2018 by saying that its date cannot yet be estimated as it depends on the constitution being put into effect. He elaborated that once the charter is officially adopted, it will take 8 months to derive organic laws from it, 2 months for review of those laws by the National Legislative Assembly and 15 days for a joint commission to be set up and to carry out its duties.

Nonetheless, he affirmed the CDC is drafting organic laws at this time to speed up the process and is poised to submit several laws to do with the Election Commission and political parties for consideration and may also send laws to do with senators in the near future.

On the apparent 150 day deadline for an election to take place once the 4 laws on voting are put into effect, Meechai said the deadline will be derived from the election’s schedule, adding that the Election Commission has the power to extend such a deadline if needed.

And so the bovine excrement continues to flow, how about setting the real date at, say, the 12th of Never.

They're never going to give power back to the people so it matters not when the election is. The reason they're dragging it out is to ensure every little loose end is tied up.

I have a feeling they still haven't quite devised a way of keeping the PTP out of the running while giving the appearance of sticking to the spirit of reconcilliation.

Time for foreign governments to ask questions and then heavily condemn. If these rich elite can't or won't give a date, time to go after their bank accounts and houses abroad. Freeze some assets and look closely into their business dealings. Time to stop recognising them in any capacity.

Sure making a lot of raids on PTP members maybe a show of force for political control. The death penalty for out of line politicians should cap things off.
