PM urges Panthongtae to prepare to testify in Court

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha Friday told the son of ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra to be prepared to testify in court over tax collection of his father’s controversial sale of Shin Corp in 2006.

Panthongtae Thursday bemoaned in his Facebook over the junta trying to collect tax from his father from the deal which could amount to Bt16 billion.

He asked what more the government wanted from the Shinawatra family after the legal case had been disposed of eight years ago.

Responding to Panthongtae’s statement, Prayut said that he should not complain about the government but should be prepared to speak in court.

Prayut also said he had asked the Finance Ministry to investigate why tax officials did not collect taxes from Thaksin. “I want to make the tax issue clear for the public I do not target anyone in particular,” he said.

The legal case has been sentenced 8 years ago, but his sister did not follow up on the collection. I wonder why...

Why no action from her sister? And why no mention on this point in his Facebook...

Oh please, if this man was Pinocchio, his nose would be two metres long.  Marginalizing the Shinawartas is the priority, but helping the Thai people.

His father and aunt were deposed by military governments.  Would say he has every right to complain.

It's simply amazing that the PM is commenting on this case.

This would seem to run counter to Prawet's comments yesterday that the "government" is not involved in this tax case.

Imagine this useful testimony:

Son - "I know nothing about tax collection concerning my father's sale."

          "Talk to my father."

Not just commenting but ordering Panthongtae "to testify in court."

Prayut as Chief of the NCPO has judicial and prosecutorial authority under the Interim Constitution to make such an order.

He should recuse himself completely from the tax issue but that would take pressure off the tax department to collect.

And would run counter to Prayut's authoritarian ego.

This confirms that the move on Thaksin is nothing but a disgusting political move.....simply accentuating the junta' absolute hatred and dreaded fear of the Shinawatra family.

This does absolutely nothing for the taxation collection in Thailand and just makes things much worse.

Well there's your answer Oak , they'll destroy from the top of the tree down , who's the next wealthiest after your family in the PTP................................:coffee1:.

The energy the junta is expending "investigating" Shinawatras and Dhmmakaya is impressive.

Just goes to show what can be done when all of the effort of the state is brought to bear on certain people.

sure like  it is perfectly "normal" to sell government property for 1 bath a share to yourself and then sell it for 75 baht to a foreign company.

It Thailand it is, was and will continue to be, completely "normal".  That's what politics is for in Thailand.

The "evil" that Mr T did (for which he is exiled) has nothing to do with any of the publicly stated crimes.

Look on any extra-territorial website analysing the history of Thai (as opposed to Siamese) politics and you will discover what it was and why it can never be discussed in Thailand.

Or don't do so and continue to remain ignorant and under the delusion that anyone in the the present regime wants to change that "normality".

And a well abused law in force and aggressively prosecuted to make sure the masses dont realise the truth.

Regarding your last sentence. Convenient for the Shins that people still write that but not actually true.

His father dissolved parliament in response to the outcry about his avoiding tax on the Shin Corp sale and then resigned the position of caretaker PM. He was then ousted after illegally re-taking that position on no authority but his own.

His auntie also dissolved parliament but was then removed from the caretaker PM role by a court for an illegal abuse of power. Her removal occurred before the PTP government were ousted from their caretaker role.

But "deposed by a military government" sounds so much better than the actual reality and makes the Shins seem innocent.  And someone always posts it.

Actually, during those 8 years, YL has been in full power during 2 years and a few months as caretaker. I understand she was not likely to be prompt on this issue, but what about the 5 years and half under other governments, i. e. 3 years of Junta.'s government....;)

Mr T also lent Thai taxpayer money at very low interest compared to normal rates at the time to the military regime in Burma so they could by equipment from............... yep, his company.
