The phone number 091-999-9999 was acquired for Bt8.02 million in an auction of special phone numbers being held by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission on Saturday and Sunday.

The auction of 200 phone numbers is held through an online app.

The NBTC auctions off 50 numbers with the last seven digits being the same number, such as 088-999-9999, 090-999-9999 and 090-555-5555. The numbers have a starting price of Bt3 million each.

The NBTC also auctions 150 numbers with the last six digits being the same, such as 090-599-9999, and 090-199-9999. Each has a starting price of Bt500,000.

The NBTC expects to earn more than Bt225 million from the auction.

I saw this news on social madia today, shared many times (2.5K), also posted on other sites. The DarkWeb also has info on this number.

The suggestion is to send an SMS, or direct dial this number, "Shallow B'stard, 8.02 million Baht, feeling lucky now?".

The intent is similar to DDOS web attack. Calling this No.gets the standard "this number is not avaiable" response.

Money well spent, I think not.

Tools! All of them!

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect

Why are they all tools?  Because they spent their own money on something they could afford?  Don't you do the exactly same thing if you want to buy something that is not a necessity?

The irony is that those sending, or even just thinking of sending that offensive message are actually the real shallow ones.  You know that "the number is unavailable", did you call it?

Does anyone who has no business whatsoever interfering in your life ever decide that any money you spend is not well spent?  I think not.

You are missing the point. The numbers are not only bought for prestige but just like license plates they go up and down in price like stocks. Usually up...Supply and demand.

Thailand takes the obsession of numbers to a new level...my wife dreams in numbers most everynight(when its not about ghosts and bloody corpses) ,then..its off to buy a lottery ticket ...we're still poor....

Just goes to show ,some people have lots more money, than sense.

whoever got the number will be sick of it ringing,as everyone on

social media will be ringing it.

I changed my home number to an unused exchange test number, 221111.

Little did I realise it was one digit out from a local taxi company. 222111. After a week of drunks ringing up in the middle of the night I changed back to my old number.

There was no mention as to whether the numbers were aquired by individuals or companies.

Kasikornbank, for example has a 02 888 8888 number.

If wealthy epeople have the wherewithal to spend money on what some people might regard as frivolous purchases, IMO that is entirely up to them.As someone pointed out earlier, these phone numbers, like car license numbers are negotiable and considered an investment.

"The phone number 091-999-9999 was acquired for Bt8.02 million in an auction of special phone numbers..."

There's one born every minute. And that's just in Thailand alone. "A fool and his money.... "

When your money comes from corruption and you have more than you can ever spend, what's an odd Bt8 million for a phone number?

Funny enough, I reckon his friends will only actually use those numbers once and it will be saved in their contacts. How many people actually dial numbers now-a-days for people that you know? It is a mobile number and not a landline.

All his dialed calls will be from strangers, hope they will be in awe.....................:passifier:
