Military raid Pheu Thai’s book launch party

A combined force of soldiers and police today raided a book launch party of former Pheu Thai party's MPs at a restaurant inside the Wachirabenchathat park or known as State Railway public park in Chatuchak and ordered them to stop the party, reasoning what they did is a defiance of the military junta's order.

The party was scheduled to introduce a book “Toppling the Rice Pledging Scheme is Killing the Farmers” at Ploy Naree restaurant. Author of the book is former deputy agriculture Minister Yuthapong Charasathien while co-authors included several former Pheu Thai MPs.

Soldiers and police used traffic barricades to block the entrance to restaurants with signboard saying the launch party is illegal and violates the military junta’s order.

Soldiers told the former minister in the Yingluck Shinawatra administration that the party is a violation of Order 3/2558 of the National Council for Peace and Order because its theme is political.

And Thai military authorities still insist on making public declarations about how much they revere democracy and stability and the rights and freedoms of ordinary Thai citizens.

A book about rice could indeed contain the most dangerous, inflammable revolutionary thoughts that could put the combined force and weapons of the military and police combined at risk. Vigilance before freedom!

The amount of fear and paranoia this government displays over people meeting and the written word is sadly humorous and shameful.   Such fragile people "protecting" the country from possibly flourishing and becoming normal.  This sort of behavior bodes poorly for the future of Thailand.

Charges are pending for:

Serving sandwiches containing jam from jars with a certain picture on them.

Unauthorized possession of certain calendars.

Irresponsible and flagrant use of red plastic bowls.

Just as well it wasn't a comedy event. If there is one thing tyranny hates more than books, it is laughter...

"...Such ....... people....protecting" the country from ..." folks who are still looking for any opportunity to tell lies and divide the country so they can rush in again for the spoils. Clear as a bell...

'Soldiers told the former minister in the Yingluck Shinawatra administration that the party is a violation of Order 3/2558 of the National Council for Peace and Order because its theme is political. '

How long does it take to destroy any opposition to a Government? I read on TV that it would take longer than a few months as proclaimed when the military came to power, to get the house in order. I would think this will be a 20+ years of no opposition. But the person commenting on the military method was full of praise? I wonder what type of country he came from?

Great free publicity. The book will now be known to more people  PTP should publically offer the military nothing but their heartfelt and genuine thanks. The event has now been reported on most Thai news channels.

Your opinion is important as is their's.  The only difference is they are not allowed an opinion at this time, but you are.  Gloat on

Really. Seems like a pretty lame excuse to me but then looking back at the Bridge Club fiasco and so many other petty things in the past it seems in the range of possibility as a government action. As we build towards an election this bad feel to it.

Ironic, it was killing some of them when it was still "operational", if you want to call that cluster----k an operation.

Reconciliation? HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Just wondering, you do think the udd, the reds, etc., are launching this book as a gesture towards reconciliation?

Could well be, yesterday they indicated they rejected the work in progress and in the coming near future they would state another approach to reconciliation.

Some coincidence.

By the way, I wonder if the book mentions surapong refusing to obey the law and breaking the law to issue new passports? No doubt at the time a gesture of support for the poor.

How true.  Trying to suppress something always makes it more popular, as everyone wants to find out what all the fuss is about.

The smell of desperation is in the air, as the junta loses it's grip on reality.

At some level even you you must be ashamed of your post's disgusting moral ignomony.
