Defamation threats on TV

I was threatened by another member today with a defamation charge, I had mistakenly replied to the wrong poster, and I wrote something about them that therefor was not true.  When challenged on this I explained that is was a mistake, posted what I had thought I was replying to and appologized for the mistake, however they responded with a confirmation that they will actually be prosecuting.  I was wondering what other members think, do they have a case for defamation of their TV alias that was within minutes appologized for and explained for the mistake that it was?

Goes totally too far, defamation here.. its a bit of mental sparring here nothing to take too far or too serious.

 

Besides, linking an online identity to a real one is not easily done (except in my case). But most use an alias. So defaming an alias and transfering that to the real world.  Seems a bit OT to me.

 

Are you sure the guy was serious ? not pulling your leg.

If any member threatens you, either publicly in a thread or privately via PM, please report it immediately.

 

A report will alert all online moderators and we will deal with the threatening member appropriately.

 

ThaiVisa does not tolerate such behaviour amongst it's members.

You should see it at the top of every post.

 

 

Just hover your mouse over it and it will darken so you can click on it.

Actually you can have mouse anywhere in in message text box area and it will darken - but almost impossible to see if you do not.

Then the contrast setting on your screen needs adjusting.

The poster would need to know your name and address to even think about it, it's a non starter and probably drunken posting.

One Nom-de-plume cannot sue another nom de plume as it is not a legal entity per se.

I had the same problem here in the UK several years back when on Usenet, 2 halfwits got the wrong end of the stick and started abusing me using aliasses or Nom-De-Plumes.

Unfortunatley for one of them I knew who it was and a formal Police warning shut him up. I decided to give the other fool a taste of his own medicine, by creating several aliasses and accusing him of some very heinous acts. That shut him up.

 

An alias or Nom-De-Plume can only only be sued if the owner of that Nom-de-plume is known. IP's will now reveal the identity of a miscreant if a full proven trail of abuse can be shown.

A TV member saying they are going to sue another for defamation is simply exhibiting their über Thainess and is to be pitied more than scorned.

I was threatened twice recently by a poster on TV. He had his post deleted and then published it again until I made a report.

 

Just give the two fingered salute and report them.

Any member can report abusive PM's, you can find the Report button as pointed out HERE.
