I and many friends and relatives never want to visit Pattaya because of the stigma and the depressing sights of the old western pigs preying on young women trapped in poverty. We will rather do the long drive to Hua Hin  so that no one will think we visit the depressing dump named Pattaya. My wife and children are Thai and their reputation suffer because of places like Pattaya. In the long term Thailand would be much better of closing down the WHOLE sex and industry catering to foreigners. No more bus loads of Chinese tourists taking photos and mocking Thailand and Thais, and telling their friends at home what low class people the Thais are. But Thailand need the money from this disgusting industry because decades of Thai governments have always prioritized quick and easy money instead of building up a sustainable economy that can move the country out of the third world. And I would love to see the old fat sleaze bags from the west residing here sent packing to another country because of lack of opportunities here.

its really amazing, how many posters are totally ignorant about the sex business in thailand . it are the girls, who are preying on the sextourists, tenthousand  girls from all over thailand come to pattaya each year, for the EXCLUSIVE purpose of finding a sex tourist. they are not slaves, they dont have pimps like in western countries, they can change their bar any day they want, and many do that without any problems.
btw, 90% of all sex business caters only to thais, in every single village all over thailand there is a brothel, often disguised as karaoke, the girls there are much younger (15+), and only after they are no longer attractive to thais (22), they are looking for tourists in pattaya, bkk, phuket.

I live 3 hours from Pattaya. Inland. Had a visitor from Aus who wanted to visit this internationally known place. So my wife and I took him there. Things have changed. When I was there years ago it was a 24/7 place. Now bar prices are almost through the roof. Short time is now between 2000, 3000 bt. The many live rock bands are gone and replaced with dumph dumb music. Walking street was infested with tourists lookers, not users. Not that I give a rats, my wife would cut my pecker if she thought I was playing up. My friend was enchanted though and had a good time. The road to Pattaya has increased in time to get there due to all the road building along the way. This is for ease of access to the ports by large trucks, not  ease of tourists to Pattaya.

But Pattaya is now a shadow of its former self. I saw so many sad and lonely old men there. A few young ones that were enjoying the novelty but most of them will never be back. My wife and I played pool while my friend, err, had a good time and returned looking happy and sheepish. Not that he is a kiwi. lol

I rather think your wife and children feel bad because you are forcing your bigot Western value system onto them.  YOU make them feel bad because YOU feel bad when you see 'old western pigs preying on young women'. This is all you see, but you are obviously unable to look beyond the surface.

Many Thais are not happy about the image of Thailand, but in secret or when they have a chance, they come to Pattaya with or without their friends and try to pick up a 'farang' in a disco, just to try it and to have their 'sanook'. Maybe even making a little money on the side, easily 1/4th of what they are earn in a factory with hard work every month. When I lived there, I had many encounters with younger and older girls coming right from Bangkok or the NE provinces, and it was ME who had to warn them that their dream of finding a husband in this town who would be the door-opener to a wealthy and happy (farangs are considered as generally nicer and more trustworthy than Thai men) future may at least be questionable. Still, they wanted to try their luck, and righteously so!

As the poster above, I am puzzled how some one can claim to have lived here for several years at least and have so little understanding about Thai culture and attitudes.

@spiderorchid I agree, but there are also upsides. I think that in parts the efforts to change Pattaya's image are working out, but at a ridiculously low level. I always said that if the authorities were smart, they would utilize Pattaya's BRAND and market it more actively. Not on prostitution of course, but Pattaya as a fun-town with many attractions and a vivid night-life and (drinking) bar scene (and more for the insiders ;-) ).

Instead of blackmailing naive tourists who drive home drunk and then get extorted for 20-50,000 Baht by organized Police highwaymen gangs :post-4641-1156693976: who threaten them to put them to 'monkey house': provide free pickups who bring those holiday maniacs back safely to their hotels! Be nice to your tourists for once!

Clean up the beaches! Clean up the other blackmailing gangs with the speedboats! Protect the last remaining green spots on Pratumnak hill from the gold digging 'condo constructors'! Repair the roads! Build footpaths! Clean up the sea and actively hunt down polluters and corrupt officials etc.etc.etc!

Pattaya could be a world-reknowned party place who makes billions a year again - not only because of the sex business, but with it as a fraction of a high entertainment value to be had in this city.

Instead, politicians are trying to destroy what's actually working, and build not much else in exchange. All they seem to be interested in is selling off as much as they can and get their cut. That's what's ruining the once flourishing remains of Pattaya in my eyes and drives away more and more wealthy farangs who have pumped their retirement money into the girls, the businesses and condos, thus feeding hundreds of thousands of Thais indirectly. As Drump would tweet: "SAD and disappointing. This is fake politics. Believe me, I would make Pattaya great again!"

No politicians at work in Thailand right now; the army has been running the country for almost 3 years and counting. Thailand and Pattaya are going through an identity crisis. Pattaya is tapping into the huge markets on their doorstep and giving them what they want, but Western visitors will always be catered for too and the market always corrects itself over time; supply will meet demand. Good business prospers, bad ones fail.

The customer base for sex tourism is drying up, especially when it comes to the in your face aspect of the scene.

online prostitution is booming. For the sex-workers,it does away the  need to sit in a bar constantly smoking, drinking and yawning all day in scorching heat and humidity.this is one of the reasons why the customer base for sex tourism is drying up.Younger customers who are more tech-savvy than their older counterparts are rarely seen in bars

but many disappointments online as  men can just talk about having sex with online girl just for it exciting them but then not actually meeting them so a girl is not going to just sit at home all day on a computer with no customers , the drying up of customers is because of the incesent police and authorities harrassing girls on beach road and making it difficult for men to get off with them as they look to clean up pattaya but instead are losing business with people going to other destinations .

"I want people to see that we are not like what they say. We are not allowing prostitution in these entertainment places," provincial governor Pakkaratorn Teianchai told reporters on the infamous Walking Street in Pattaya, southeast of Bangkok.

I think the Russian spokes person saying Assad did not use chemical weapons was more convincing... :cheesy::cheesy::cheesy:

he is probably a virgin , who is going to come to a resort that is filthy in the sea with extrament and waste paper and plastic , no  or very little seats to sit on at beach road to sit on so you have to sit on the filthy pavement with cockroaches, beaches that thais and farlangs piss on at night , dogs that sh,t on the beach , no go go bars , no girls in the street offering sex , and no sex please were british stiff upper lips chaps attitude , DEFINATELY not me and thousands and thousands  of others wont be coming !! and before the virgin gets on his high horse think about all the thai staff in those go go bars and girls on the streets not earning any money and dont say they can work in a casino if nobody is coming here there wont be and thais wont allow a casino on thai land thats why they are on the border in nomans land , your living in a dream world !! bet your the bright spark that told them to take all the seats away on beach road

Casinos, if they come, will be hiring uni grads for all but the cleaning staff and certainly not Isaan farmgirls. I shudder to think what the traditional fire-aim-ready planning mentality and resultant economic desperation will do to the crime situation in the streets of Pattaya just a few feet outside the hallowed halls of these pie-in-sky casinos.
