BANGKOK: -- Land rights campaigners from 25 provinces gathered inside the Public Sector Development Commission Office (OPDC) on Thursday morning as part of their campaign for the government to find solutions to their chronic problems.

Around 100 representatives of local people from the People’s Movement for a Just Society, who suffer from land rights and communal rights violations across the country, peacefully camped inside the OPDC compound opposite Government House. They spoke to one another about their problems such as forestland reclamation, community relocations and communal land deeds.

The protesters stressed that they had long campaigned for solutions of their problems but there was still not much progress from the government, so they came to Bangkok to ask the government to speed up the process.

At around 10.30am, the campaigners held the religious ceremony to ask for a blessing from Mother Earth.

They will meet with Prime Minister’s Office Minister Ormsin Chivapruck in the afternoon.
